I have recurring mouth ulcers, been to the doctor, all they do is prescribe me steroids and say use some mouthwash but nothing is helping and once again sitting here not being able to talk with about 4 of them in my mouth is unbearable. Also, I don't remember a time where I didn't have them. Always in pain, always there.

Could do with some help to ease the pain or any suggestions on what I should I do pleaseeee. Sad

Have you sought advice from a dentist or orthodontist?

Report

I have spoken to my dentist on a number of times, he has confirmed that it is nothing to do with my dental hygiene so I have nowhere to go really

Hmmm
Maybe look at vitamin deficiency?

Have you tried chorahexidine mouth wash?

Has anyone done any investigations at blood tests? .

...and I didn't mean to imply your oral health was bad, btw, but dentists can usually advise in this situation.

badders haha no I didn't take it in that way, I went to him too but he was no help, also not a vitamin deficiency, regularly get blood tests due to other health problems and so blood is always looked after

Make sure you're using toothpaste without sls in. Mine stopped since using sls free toothpaste (I use pronamel). When I do get the occasional one now I use oralmedic, which basically burns them off! Costs about £8 for two applications but totally worth it. You get it online. I feel for you. I used to get massive ones on the back of my throat too and I used to get so down as they are so painful.

Have you had tests for vitamin levels? Ulcers unusually mean I'm run down. I'm not certain I've remembered the right one but low vitamin D maybe?

lovethebubbles I regularly change up my toothpaste, medicated, whitening etc.

But a bit concerned the doctors haven't done any allergy testing, they just say "oh we don't do that"

Have you ever had a test for coeliac disease? I had mouth ulcers all the time, all my life till I was diagnosed - now I have less than one a year

Isn't there a product that acts like a barrier over the ulcer to stop the stinging and pain? Might help whilst they heal.

I feel for you I have one huge one on the inside of my lower lip now and it's agony. I also have a cold and get ulcers when I'm run down in general. How is your general health aside from the ulcers?

TheChippendenSpook · 21/10/2016 20:54

I used to get them all the time and now I hardly get any at all. I stopped eating crisps that contain msg. I also get them if I eat too much citrus fruit.

Sounds really weird but I really don't get many mouth ulcers these days.

Forgot to add that corsodyl mouthwash is brilliant as is some local anaesthetic gel that I bought in America. It gave me instant relief. It's called Iodent.

CMOTD No I don't have anything apart from WPW syndrome

Wolfie Sadly tried nearly every single one

Moveit I have a heart syndrome, WPW syndrome, and anxiety but it does not come from stress cause I could be buzzing like a bee and still have them, have had them in all situations so does not stem from anywhere

TheChip So did I, I cut every sugary, chocolately, fizzy, citrusy thing from my diet, corsodyl does not work for me and do you think I can order it on amazon?

I get mouth ulcers. It usually comes up when I'm very run down or eaten citrus.
I take selenium when it's there.

I think zinc is good for mouth ulcers. Take lots, about 30mg a day, which is over the rda but close to the optimal amount. I take a high dose multivitamin in the morning and 15mg zinc at night (Biocare). You can also get oral solution of zinc or rub the tablets gently on the ulcers when you take them - no taste - as zinc is absorbed through the mouth.

I get mouth ulcers from eating the wrong food. I'm intolerant to a fair bit of stuff. Suggest you cut out wheat entirely for a few weeks. See how you get on.

If you feel heaps better, then in order to get tested for coeliac, then you'll have to start back on the gluten again for the test to work, but if Drs say they won't test you, then it's got to be worth a punt. Try cutting out all dairy, too, but not at the same time.

Suggest gargling and rinsing mouth out with soluable aspirin then swallowing the mixture. Works a treat, if it's Ok with the rest of your meds.

No idea on the science or efficacy but my grandad eats an orange every night to prevent ulcers, so surprised at the suggestions to cut out citrus
