Hi all.
As i'm getting married in September i've lately started wondering about this.
I have used no contraception (apart from condoms obviously) with DP for years.
I have really really heavy periods though since having my children and lately i've been thinking if i start my period on my Wedding day it woulr be a nightmare. (I even have to time shopping visits on that day i bleed alot).
I worry about the pill and have never used anything else so any info??

AFAIK you can only change your period patterns through the pill. ie, if you take the pill, you can carry on taking it through the time when you should be having your week break from it. That will stop your period.

I did this when I got married. I asked GP. She said it was completely safe to do for a one off.

No idea how you would do it otherwise. I know you can get a tablet that you can take while you are bleeding to reduce the flow but it wouldnt stop your period completely.

I was thinking about the pill but am worried about any side effects. My sister started a pill that made her covered in spots (i've just read something similar on another thread). I guess should start soon to see if it's o.k

Thanks btw

I think the pill is probably the best way to go - you can 'plan' when you have your AF. Also, as you bleed heavily (know what you mean about planning trips out! - nightmare) it should reduce how much blood you loose.

I've heard that with an implant your AFs can disappear or become less frequent but that won't help trying to avoid your wedding day.

All contraception has its good and bad points. If one pill makes you ill/gives you spots etc there are others to try (providing your GP will change it).

I'd have a word with your GP/family planning clinic.

Good luck with the wedding!

I did this for my wedding - worked out the date that I wanted my period (one week before), then four months before stopped taking the pill a couple of days early to make it come early. I still took care though not to get preggers, as I'm not too sure how safe it is.

up until I stopped taking the pill, I was still doing this occasionally for holidays. Never really had any problems with it.

I've been on the pill for almost 30 years (apart from time off for dc's, obviously) and regularly use it to avoid having a period eg on a holiday.

My experience of the pill has been fab, I have extremely light periods (in fact, I barely notice them at all), no weight gain, have never had PMT etc.

Why not give it a go now & if you do have any side effects, think of a plan B?
