How soon after giving birth do you think you can start running/jogging again? I didn't run during pregnancy but did a bit of funning on and off befoe I got pregnant - maximum milesage was 3 - 4 miles so nothing major but I'm keen to get out there and get fit again but a bit worried about the old pelvic floor muscles! Also is it okay to run when breast feeding or would it affect my milk supply? Many thanks!

I'm not a runner but I do exercise regularly. I was back at my exercise classes 7 weeks after DS2 was born. I sought some advice at the time and was told that I would have to be training to the degree of an Olympic athelete for it to affect my milk supply.

However my aerobics instructor did warn me that there was a chance of having lactic acid in the milk if I fed DS2 too quickly after exercise, I would know he would spit me out as he wouldn't like the taste, if this happens apparently it can be rectified by expressing a bit. This never happened and I think the instructor was being overly cautious.

IMO the biggest issue with returning to exercise and breastfeeding is having good support for the old norks.

All the best.

becks - there's a runners thread a bit further down in Health, someone there will know. I didn't take up running until my youngest was about 5 so can't help with specifics. Good luck though!
