Dry scalp - alternative to steroid treatment?

I have a dry scalp condition which I've been treating with a steroid solution for the last couple of years. It's the only thing that's worked - change of shampoo etc didn't.

I'm currently in my first trimester and would like to avoid using the steroid treatment at this point - and ideally for the whole of the pregnancy - but my scalp is becoming a real mess again.

Has anyone suffered this sort of thing and had success with treatments other than steroids? It's not dandruff, more just very dry skin on my scalp which shows in patches and if left untreated, spreads down my face.
