Removed From GP Register Without Warning

Just wanted to know if this has happened to anyone else.
Have been registered with the same GP surgery for 15 years. Had an appointment last Monday (diagnosed with depression/anxiety) and then bloods taken on Thursday (fertility investigations). Monday's doc told me to go back today for an update on how I'm feeling, discuss progress etc.
I rang this morning and was told I am no longer on the register!!! We live just outside the catchment area and have done for the past 5 years, but it's never been an issue. I just can't believe they have just removed me without letting me know and without (I am assuming) referring to my notes. My son is also registered there, so I have to find out if he is GP-less too.
They have very begrudgingly given me an appointment for 1140h at which I will probably 'beg' the doc to keep me on their books, otherwise it means trying to register elsewhere.
Just can't believe it. Has this happened to anyone else? What did you do? What was the outcome?
Thanks.

No experience of this, just didn't want to leave you unanswered.

What happened at your appt?

Your primary care trust has a legal duty to ensure you can register with a local GP, so if the surgery is obstinate, call up the PCT and get another doc. Sadly surgeries can just get rid of you for no reason.

We once had to change doc but had it in writing with good notice. Can't really remember, but I think we were told which surgery catchment area we were in.

Actually, worth checking with the GP you saw whether there's some mistake here, as they clearly weren't aware of this.

can they just deregister you without contacting you ? Sounds like a mistake to me - given that you have an ongoing investigation at the moment.

Not sure they can do this if you are in the middle of a course of treatment. Check with the PCT and make a complaint to the practice manager.

My Dad was removed from his Drs register, he hadn't been to see them for several years and they just presumed he no longer lived within Nottinghamshire

As far as I am aware they are allowed to remove you from the register is you fall outside the catchment area and only have to take you back on if all the Drs within your catchment area refuse to take you on.

It is rather distasteful that they have done this whilst in the middle of treating you.

I personally would find a new Drs.

Hi there,

Thanks for responding. I saw the Doc this morning and it was a brilliant brush off. I've never been fobbed off like it in my life. No discussion about how I am etc etc. On the way home I dropped into the surgery round the corner from where I am (bear in mind the old surgery is only a 5 minute drive away which is peanuts!) - they are taking new patients so in a few minutes I'm going to go back and register myself and DS, and try to get in to see a Doc.

I self-certified last week because after a year of living post-ectopic pregnancy I realised I couldn't continue in the same vein, basically couldn't cope, hence the Doc visit. This week I had plans for sorting out counselling and just being alone at home to grieve and get everything out of my system. Now it seems I may have to go back to work, or use A/L to cover (that's naff)... unless I can see a Doc and he is in agreement with my need to stay home for the week (and my boss will agree with this one too).

I am going to complain to PALS because fair enough if they want to tidy up their registers, but bloomin' heck, contact the patient first and let them know what's going on!!!

PS: I work for the PCT!!!
