Going abroad for dentistry - anyone tried it?

I need an implant, its going to cost £3k.
Just wondered if anyone had been abroad for cheaper dentistry ?

Before you go, have you looked at the Brighton implant centre? DH paid £995 per implant all inclusive. He had a large no done some years ago and was thrilled with them.

piddley i have just spent 3k on one. Then went to visit bil in marbella, who had one for €695. Im going back there in jan for another one.

Thanks, dentist just so casually told me it will be 3k like that is perfectly reasonable! Will check out Brighton. Where in Marbella dangly? MIL lives in France so might get her to check out some options.

You also need to factor in the costs of multiple trips. Depending on the circumstances regarding why you need an implant. For me it was to remove the remains of tooth and fit a temporary crown, then 2nd trip to fit implant post, wait three/four months take mould for implant, another trip to fit new tooth, then a check up and a bit of filing of new tooth, so 4 trips in all. Mind you my trips were just down the road and not a few thousand miles away.

The dentist can't fit the new tooth to the implant post until the post has fused with your jaw, that takes 3/4 months. I think it's a minimum of 2/3 visits. I personally wouldn't go abroad as if it goes wrong you need to travel or get a UK dentist to sort out the problem which would cost more. I'd shop around in the UK first.

It was at R&H Clinica. Handy as its right beside where we stay when there.

I know what you mean about the quote price, over the phone I was quoted something like 1500, went in for a proper consultation and they whacked the price up could have shopped around but I thought the process would have been horrific and didnt wanna travel in pain etc so stuck with the place in our town.

It was 4 visits for DH. Consultation, visit to have teeth removed. Visit for the pegs to be put in, visit for the actual tooth bits screwed on (technical), then a follow up visit to check all ok.

Factor in having to go back to have any issues sorted out - no implantologist will touch it here

My DH (dentist) won't even prescribe for infections caused by other dentist's implants and that is not uncommon.

Wow, 4 visits. Tooth has already been removed about a year ago, but apparently now my other teeth are collapsing into the gap. Deep joy.

All super helpful info, thanks. Seems like shopping around in the UK might be best option We are only an hour from Brighton so will check that recommendation first (I have seen them recommended elsewhere too).
