Do I really have to see a doctor? (Blood from bum!)

Four days ago I had quite a bit of blood when I wiped and assumed my period had started but it wasn't. The period came two days later and during this time after straining (I have Ibs and spend far too long doing that) there was a lot of bright red blood in the Loo. It's really scared me. Last night thinking about it I nearly fainted and felt nauseous.
I do have problems with piles and bleed from the bum when I have my period (always assumed te hormones are causing piles to become worse)
Do I really need to see a doctor ? I hate going there!

It's probably just piles, but you can't beat a visit to the doctor for a bum exam.

If the blood is bright red it's fresh blood so I would say piles, I'm no doctor though. You can buy over the counter creams so give them a go and if nothing improves, go to the docs.

Fresh blood is a good sign apparently. Go and see dr they won't examine you unless you want them to but you need it on your notes in case it carries on and you do need a referral

Thanks all I'm sure that's what it is and I have had an bum examination before so probably won't be needing another one. I'll let them know anyway!

Real, as Muddling has said, fresh blood does indicate your piles are playing up. You most probably felt lightheaded and nauseous, due to shock, seeing the blood. Go and have a word with your local pharmacist, and take a look at your diet, maybe you can improve it.

I have piles and sometimes they bleed a lot, but they were diagnosed with an endoscopy so I tend not to worry that something more sinister is going on and just ignore it

Um fresh blood doesn't always = piles so I dothink a trip to your doctor is in order. They should examine you and not just document the episode in your notes. Likelihood is that it is nothing to worry about though.

Bright red blood is not an initial panic sign; darker blood is for sure. If you see it again, go to the doctor! You may have piles, or a fissure, but it's best to be sure. (Not a medic but a Crohn-y)

It's always worth getting rectal bleeding checked. Fresh blood is usually something harmless, but not always. (It sounds very unlikely to be anything sinister in your case, so I'm not trying to worry you)

I went to the GP and she didn't ask whether it was bright red blood but had a very quick look. I was given a load of pile treatment but she thinks it might be endometriosis of the bowel!
But as I don't have much pain she's hoping it is probably piles.
I was glad to get out of there!
