Mirena coil - anyone had experience/side effects?

I had one fitted nearly six months ago - periods all over the place - still. And am moody, headaches. Are these related to the coil? (Or am I simply a grumpy mummy???)

Never had Mirena but I had Implanon (implant in arm) which was a disaster - bled nearly all the time. When I went to have it changed they told me Mirena would be the same as exactly the same dose of exactly the same hormone. Hence I would react in the same way. I sympathise.

I spotted for around 8/9 months and still have (very very light) periods 16 months on - yes it could all be the coil or it may be just part of it.

I was absolutely fine no problems what so ever, but SIL had one fitted and had to go off sick from work because it made her so ill,she bled cont, dreadful stomach cramps like she was in labour. After a month she got Dr to take it out and on the way home started to feel better, by next day she had stopped bleeding, TBH it works on some people but not everyone I would have a chat with your Drs nurse if I was you- dont suffer ib silence.

There have been quite a few threads on the Mirena coil - you should do a search in Health.

I had one around a year ago and it made me feel incredibly moody & depressed but I think this is a fairly rare reaction. If you know what signs to look for you can always have it out again.
