Hello - my dd had a test for reflux whilst in hospital after a scare at two weeks old. We had to keep her with an empty stomach for a period of time beforehand, and then the dr put a tube up through her nose, and down into her stomach - which wasn't a great few minutes I have to say.. That said said though she was very little and had had a terrible couple of days prior to them doing the test. But once its done, she hardly noticed it, and she was perfectly happy with it, so I don't think it hurt her -and feeding her etc was fine (from memory at least). I can't remember how long she had it in either I'm afraid. They found that she had slight reflux but nothing major, so there was nothing they could do about it.

That probably doesn't help a lot does it? Sorry (and I haven't read the whole thread, so sorry if I've misunderstood the question).

ds had a pH study done at 11 months. Basically involves staying overnight in hospital. A tube is inserted through the nose and down into the stomach. This is obviously not pleasant but over v. quickly. They then have to do an x-ray to ensure the tube is positioned correctly. You then just note down when your ds is eating or sleeping and 24 hrs later (or 15hrs in our case) the machine gives a reading of if your child is refluxing and to what degree. If you have been through tests for cf and symptoms of reflux etc. with your ds, I really don't think a pH study is very big deal and not v. invasive at all. It will give you some good info.

Great news about the CF, Emkana. Don't know about the PH study, but hope it's not too traumatic.

Thanks for telling me about your experiences, that's very helpful indeed.

I am v. happy about the CF thing, I was hoping very much we'd get a good result, but it's great to be able to cross it off the list so to speak.

Ds has been sooooooooo much better since he's been put on the continuuous AB's as well.

So happy about the CF test, Emkana! Also that ds is keeping better with the continuous AB's. I've no idea about a Ph study, sorry.

My DS had silent reflux but i refused the test as he had every symptom ... i do know of another mum who had it done and she said it was the anticipation that was worse, and the baby seemed fine throughout it and he was quite young - around 4 months old. Good luck!!!!!!!

I've had an ng too & dd for a year. The passing is the worst bit but it's over very quickly. Glad he's doing better on the AB's.
