Tinitus- one ear only

I have had a strange feeling in my ear now for over a year....seen doctor twice...assured no infaction/wax build up etc.

dizzy turning over in bed for weeks then ok for a few weeks then dizzy again...

hissing/ringing sound in the one ear...and loss of hearing comes and goes all day.

assumed it was my sinuses...as i get probs with them....but on the radio the other day they said that anything that affects just one ear like tinitus/hearing loss should not be ignored....so what next?

thanks...yes turning over always from one side...wakes me up....and lasts for about a minute- and then i deliberately turn over the other way...no dizziness...then back again the 1st way...dizzy.if this makes sense...if i'm lying on my right ear...and roll over -turning on my back-with my right shoulder leading ...it happens- if i roll face first (horrible) its not so bad-

its my rightear that feels odd...feels 'sucked in' like a vacuum.

has happened a few times just walking...falling to the left each time....and quite alot when i i leaning down to get something out of a low shelf (reaching down to the right)....or too much looking up.

Yes, unilateral tinnitus should be investigated by ENT. I have it, and was scanned for a RARE benign tumour. I don't have the tumour, btw!

yes..i know about the tumour thing....as in its not 'terrible'...not cancer etc...and in elderly people they just leave it alone....but i'm 40 this year... and though this makes me feel elderly ...i spose they would operate!

and ... i wondered about menieres disease... again not life threatening... but debilitating.

and then i saw the other health thread about 'laberythitus'...or something like it!

then ofcourse there 'vertigo'.....

the hissing thing was really weird the other day- cos for a few hours i had the best hearing i'd had for months in my right ear.... almost annoyed me cos i was noticing/distracted by noises that i have obviously not noticed for ages. then when simply sat down watching tv that night i felt my right ear seem to close down- and that is how its been for 3 days now. still able to hear- but not clearly

misses f, i have tinnitus and hearing loss in one ear, my left. i had various tests, scans etc and still no clue what has caused it but not a tumour etc. unfortunately, something i've had to get used to and i manage although its pretty annoying.

do get a referral to ent to check out for nasties.
good luck.

olivo- thanks...yes i am sure this is something i will just have to put up with! It really is irritating...but not painful at all...so though i wish it was not happening...if i were in pain... well that would be another thing. i am having my gallbladder out soon- and that is a different thing altogether...that hurts ...and i need it fixed...but my ear is something which i feel i can live with...but i will get it checked....

hi there. dont have time for a full reply here, but i had tinitus caused by labyrinthitis, following flu. 5 yrs ago. still have it. i do sympathise. beware of balance tests. they made my tinitus worse! (all that blowing air into the ear etc!)
will try tp pop back to this thread later. x
