Horrid cystitis-advice on medicine required

Hi all, I'm suffering with cystitis which thankfully isn't painful but the constant need to pee without relief is driving me nuts. Worst at night and my back pain is horrid. Having spend most of last night/this morning trying to sleep on the sitting room floor I fell like a zombie today, especially with an exuberant 3 year old running around and a full time job. I've booked an appointment at my doctors but the first I could get is in 10 days time so I'm tempted to try and whack the cystitis with over the counter remedies (boots dissolvable powder thing or canasten), bicarbonate in water and cranberry tablets. I've read about all of those things but I don't know anyone who has tried them all at once. Does anyone think that's crazy? I don't want to do more damage but I'm at the end of my tether!
Grateful for any advice.
Pushed to my limit, Amelia'sMum xxx

I would phone out of hours doctor. Sound like you need anti biotics. I also find cranberry juice helps, but you also need to drink lots of water.

You can use bicarb or sachets- both contain a lot of salt and it's unwise for anyone with possible high BP to use both , though a tiny amount of bicarb ( 1/4 tspoon) plus a sachet is probably ok.

However- as you have back pain it sounds as if the infection may be travelling up to your kidneys so this is one time when a trip to A&E, walk in, or out of hours GP is best.

Keep off the cranberry- it's ok for prevention but is so acidic it will make you go more.

Get well soon.

Back pain = GP. It's moved up from your bladder into your kidneys.

In the meantime you can ease the symptoms with Cystopurin over the counter but you're going to have to get this sorted ASAP I'm afraid. You won't last 10 days.

Useful to know for future reference not to drink cranberry, Thanks.

OP, agree with others that you shouldn't wait for 10 days.
Go to walk-in centre, OOH GP as applicable locally.

D-MANNOSE can be ordered on line and is a godsend

Treat it ASAP. It's horrible.
And you don't want to risk it spreading to the kidneys anyway.

You can order the medicine on line from super drug can be deleoverws or can pick it up. I always have trimethoprim. If not can't you get an emergency doctors appointment. Drink lots of fluid and barley water helps

Thanks very much everyone really helpful advice. I think you're right that a trip to the docs is in order if it doesn't clear up soon. I am such a baby when it comes to pain!
