I had a colposcopy and cervical punch biopsy yesterday morning and have been in quite a lot of pain since then. In the info the hospital gave me it said expect mild period type cramps for a few hours afterwards. However I've still got quite strong cramps almost 24 hours later that paracetamol and ibruprofen aren't touching. I had to go into town yesterday afternoon and struggled to walk I was so uncomfortable and the pain actually woke me up in the night. It's not agonising, but it's a constant kind of throbbing. I've got a high pain threshold so this has surprised me a bit. Anyway, I'm wondering if anyone has experience of this? I know pain can be a sign of infection but I have no other symptoms but I'm due to go away for a wedding tonight and won't be home until Monday so not sure whether I should get checked out? The pain is mostly on the left and feels like a throbbing pain that radiates out.

You should get it checked out. I had a colposcopy years ago and was merely uncomfortable for a couple of hours afterward.

I was in pain and bleeding for about two weeks afterwards but it wasn't severe pain.

Phone the clinic? That's what I did and they were lovely and reassuring on the phone

It's not severe pain, but it is painful rather than just being a little uncomfortable. Tbh if I wasn't about to go away for the weekend I'd leave it until tomorrow and see how I felt, just don't want to end up stuck miles away trying to get into a walk in clinic or something

Do you have a number for the clinic? That would be my first port of call. Then a phone appt with GP.

It's probably going into town / walking around after that's done it. I did that too, but you're not supposed to walk much the day of having it done I think. Perhaps you're on your feet too much and it's delaying healing. Don't have baths or have sex.

And why not phone them, it's only a phone call and might set your mind at rest

I can't find a number for the clinic. It's really painful again now so I'm going to phone the doctors when they open again at 2.

Thank you for the advice. No one told me not to walk around too much, just got told not to have sex or swim for 3 days
