DD clawing her ears and temples

DD struggles to settle to sleep (day and night) and wakes up several(and I mean several!) times a night. She does a lot of clawing at her ears and temples and I can't quite work out if it's her cradle cap (which pretty bad and looks very pink and itchy) or if it's a teeth problem. She is teething at the moment too. I've tried given her nurofen or calpol for the teeth but it seems to make no difference. We've also given her piriton syrup for her eczema (she has a lot of that) which just knocks her out so I'm not sure if it's solving an itchy problem or just making her sleep. She tends to do it during the day if she's tired and niggly, also when trying to sleep or waking from sleep.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Yes. Dd used to pull her hair and hit herself on the side of the head. She had a couple of ear infections and a bit of glue ear. She was treated with antibiotics once for ear infection which recurred within a week so I didn't bother after that. Took her to cranial osteopath instead and I believe that he really helped. Good luck with your one

how old ? Could be the dryness fo ehr scalp is just irritating her - dd was like that at just opver a year and it coincided with the central heating going on and humidity of indoor air dropping . Not sure piriton etc is a long term solution.

She's coming up 20 weeks and I'm not happy about using piriton anyway. Only used it twice before I realised that with eczema you're not necessarily releasing hystamine so an antihistamine won't solve the problem. (we were prescribed it btw!) Anyway, I digress. Thanks for your advice. This has been going on for some weeks. We have been going to a cranio osteopath for a few weeks who did say that she has very tight membranes (!) and that teething is obviously causing problems but we didn't see any improvement so decided to stop going as the money was running out. Perhaps I need to go to the Dr. Again! I live in that place!

you are never wasting the doctors time if you are worried about something. you are only wasting your own time if you sit and worry without doing anything about it.

ancient proverb spouted at me by dh

good luck, hope doc can help
