awful dry skin on hands. painful - whta cream tcan I use?

I get this every winter. It is hurting so much atm. esp between my fingers. not exzema, just dry dry chapped skin

can anyone help me with:

a) a good cream to use?
b) where to get it?
c) how much it us?
d) does it work?

dont know what but somethings set my skin off very badly, especially this time of year and i use good old vaseline, for a few days and start to wear rubber gloves to wash up in until better. Hate rubber gloves normally.

OK, you're going to think I'm mad, but dh suffers with this and the best hand cream he's ever used was ... Boots nipple cream. His hands get red raw and sore in the winter, and a couple of years ago the only thing we had in the house to put on it was some nipple cream left over from when I was breast-feeding - and it works a treat. He's used it ever since.

I use vaseline intensive for dry skin when I get that chapped skin on my hands - availiable from all good chemists/supermarkets etc and I think is about £4 but its superb. Dove also do a really good one for about the same.

L'occitaine hand cream is great.A friend at work reccommened it to me and she has very dry sore hands It's a bit expensive (£15) but goes a long way a big tube lasts me about 11 months.

When its really bad I still am using up that ultra expensive nipple cream that i used twice on the specified area!.

My hands get terribly dry,chapped and sore in this weather. Haven't found anything to beat Neutrogena.

An expensive one is Elizabeth Arden eight-hour cream. also used on a scar to help it heal. Its alot, but you only need a tiny bit.

vasline helps at nigvht, but no good for the day time
might try somne of the other more expensive ones.

ATM I am inb bed and it is hurting - and I need a pee which means washing my hands so cue more pain. grrrrrrrr

Aveeno hand cream £4.99 from Superdrug is good. Leaves a residue that protects through hand washing

Have you tried hydrocortonsone cream from pharmacist? I usually use that but have had to use Eucerin from boots when feeding DS.

Have you tried cotton gloves in bed.. hardly sexy but does help... you can coat hands in cream, wear your gloves and it does stop scratching and allows cream to soak in.

The Neutrogena doesn't work for me either, and takes about half an hour to soak in. I find the best and least stingy E45, or the boots cheaper equivalent. Looking for any better suggestions with interest

no not bf so happy to try hydro cream. vaguely remember metaniumm nappy stuff from a few years ago helped (I am alwyas putting everything on to try to hep) - just done sudocrem so I can mn for abit longer!

I'm with Peachygirl on the L'Occitaine handcream - it really is fabulous stuff and worth every penny in my book. It's even better than ds2's prescription diprobase cream which I I've been nicking since his eczema cleared up.
