Dd is fast asleep and has been having a nightmare. She is 3. Her temp is 94.4. The house isn't particularly warm adn she has Vallergan for her excema. Should I do anything like take her to hospital?

Sorry - I don't quite understand the question. Her temperature isn't too high - it's a bit low if anything. Am I missing something, or are you worried that her temperature is low?

Yes Lisa- Is her temp too low?

She feels warm to the touch but when I put the temp thing in her ear (electronic one) it shows a temp of 94

94.4 is very low. Are you taking it orally, rectally, or under the armpit? Or even on the forehead, I suppose. The armpit will be the least reliable and coolest, the first can be cool, the rectal reading would be the most reliable. I have no experience of the forehead one.

If she seems otherwise fine and is adequately covered, I would put it down to innaccurate thermometer readings. I usually (for better or worse) assess my kids' temperature by pressing my lips to their foreheads. If they feel hot, I take their temp. If not I assume they're Ok. I would think that such a low temp would feel distinctly cool to the lips.

Ah- those ear temp things can give different readings depending on how they're angled. You're prob pointing it at the bone or somewhere cooler than the inner ear.

I don't think it is anything to be concerned about normal body temperature is 98.8, try the old fashioned mercury one under the armpit but if really concerned ring NHS direct they are pretty good

That is low. As said axilla temps you should add a degree. Is there any other medical reason why she should be cold? Can you wrap her up any more than she already is?

BURNINGTHECANDLE · 23/01/2007 21:41

Ok Pixie I understand that but does she rouse slightly, I don't mean wake her fully or is she deeply asleep?

Report
Pixiefish · 23/01/2007 21:42

She is deeply asleep. She has Vallergan for her excema and she has had adose of that tonight as she was really itchy. Vallergan knocks her out

Report
Pixiefish · 23/01/2007 22:13

Still waiting.

Have just taken my temp and i was 96. something. Dh is 97. something.

It could just be that the house is cold as the weather is so bad. We have electric heaters rather than central heating. She feels warm
