I need a recoommendation for a head-ache free red wine

Not sure if it's just me, but some red wine gives me a headache while others don?t. I'm just wondering if anyone knows why this happens. I've heard that some colouring added to red wine can cause headaches. Should I be buying organic red wine or perhaps it's the price? I tend to buy wine at around ?7 per bottle if it's just for DH and I to enjoy at home, but I've noticed that even if I have half a glass or one glass of certain reds, the next day I will get a mild head ache around the eyes mainly and front of head area, for most of the day. Is this a hangover?! Surely it takes more than a glass of wine to produce a hangover, no? Perhaps as I'm getting older I'm more sensitive to alcohol in general? I am almost 30 . If anyone out there can advise me on this matter, I'd be most grateful.
Best, Indigo

The same thing used to happen to me. I used always get a headached AND a hangover even from just one glass, so I avoided it for ages.
Then, when I was about 31, I tried it again, and no headache!!! (however I do still get a hangover, but that may be because I tend to drink quite a lot of it!!!) I know it sounds silly, but it's really true!
So, my advice is to give it a break for a couple of years, and then try again!

Organic does work, for me anyway!

This article suggests drinking black tea.

I get flushing sometimes from red wine or from certain spices - although it might be from beer because I oftren have a small bottle of beer if I have a curry. I've never been organised enough to write down exactly what I ate or drank though to work out hte cause properly.

Any Shiraz gives dh terrible headaches

can you narrow down the grape?

I know that e.g. that Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Noir are OK for us (and any wine from the Rioja region).

I tried organic red wine and sometimes it's OK (for headaches) sometimes it isn't so I'm sure it's more to do with the grape or type of wine.

I went to a wine tasting and the bloke said that the headaches from red wine are caused from drinking it too warm - check serving temp on bottle and chill if needed.

Sounded weird to me too!

speaking from the point of view of having tried many many different wines, i have narrowed my headaches down to the type of grape, i would try different grape variaties and see if u can pinpoint which grape affects u the most?

I think the quality of the wine plays a huge factor. For me, cheap red wine = hangover whereas the same quanitity of decent red wine = no hangover (or reduced, depending on the quantity !!) Gin

I've read quality or organic, yes- the chea[er the worse

BT such a tannin laden product will always be a risk to those susceptible.

yes that is what he said, something about tanniny wines being at a warm temperature means the toxic element is easily absorbed when you drink the wine. For very tanniny wines chill slightly.

are they bouncing back?

can just copy the whole letter into a post if this doesn't work, but would be better for you as a word document.

I don't think I have ever tasted a wine over £50 a bottle - and darn sure couldn't drink enough at that price to bring on a hang over!!!

Just a wee suggestion, but is it to do with your time of the month? I could never understand why sometimes i would get the most horrendous headache from white wine, even with 1 glass, yet other times i could have a bottle and it had no effect. Then i worked out that the week my period was due, when i had it and a couple of days after was when i got the headaches.

Organic always helps, and also check what perservatives (sp) it has in it, as its those chemicals that react with the body. I think about £7 is a good price to pay! If i bought a £50 bottle i would be so busy 'saving it for a special occasion' it would never get drunk at all!!!!!
