ds (6) had tonisllitis (yet again) 10 days ago. Has finished antibiotics and seemed really happy. HE has had a bit of a crud week at school but tbh nothing especially drastic. This is his first full week back since Christmas and he is not himself at all.

On Wednesday morning he complained of feeling dizzy before school and I checked temperature which was fine. HE had breakfast and I took him to school. Teacher made aware he was feeling not 100% but he lasted the day. Last night he was emotional and hysterical at the smallest thing - needing to get out of bath as bed time resulted in huge amounts of tears. Kept saying he is not happy and life in not fair. Says that nothng is wrong. Says he wants to spend time with me more and time goes too fast. Says he doesnt want to go see his dad at the weekend but also he does. Ds had a bad day at school and got told off for real minor thing but upset him alot more that I Would expect. HE slept really poorly which is completley unherad of for him.

TOday he went to school, had better day in school - did well no problems (typical day really). After school tears over homework, tears over bed time, tears over bumping his leg (usually he is a lot tougher), complaining of sore throat although able to eat, checked tonsils - look big but not like last week when they were all pusy. No temperature. Said he is not happy, dones know why really. Said he wants to be round me. NEeding lots of cuddles and love. Not his usal happy self. HE denies any problems at school at all. HE ran around after school in playground with friends. HE looks tired too.

Am tempted to keep him off tomorrow to give him a chance to recouperate as his dad keeps him up late and last time he was there dragged him round his friends houses alth ds was cleasrly unwell. Thing is if this isnt porliness and is a problem with school stuff will i be making it worse? He hasnt asked to be off school either..

help!

I've got one like this.
Send him to school and say his teacher will know if he's not well and will send him home. Then keep your fingers crossed!
He's probably still a bit run down - especially after all the excitement of Christmas - it's back down to earth with a bump.
My 2 are 11 & 13 - neither has been ill but they are both shattered this week.

Its so hard to tell isn't it, I have alot of similar problems with my son who is nearly 10. Perhaps one more day of recuperation might give you a chance to get to the bottom of anything that may be troubling him. My son often takes a good few days to mention incidents. Good luck

Head at my sons' primary school said that actually the first couple of years are the most important time not to miss school. When they are older it's much easier to regain lost ground.
I'm not sure that I agree, but presumably a Head with 20 years' experience would know what she's talking about?

Had him off today in the end and he is def poorly

I did take him in first thing, had a chat with teacher as ds not himself and wasnt sure wether ok for school. Teacher agreed with me. Went to main office to let them know and the receptionsit said she would check his temp with forehead themometer. Said she can if she likes but I doubt he has one and also just in from the cold. Said that he is unwell and would be taking him home. She was really hostile and said that he has been off an awful lot (probably a total of 10 days since september - 5 of those last week due to tonsillitis.) Found out that ds has been to see this woman lots this week as he has been feeling dizzy and ill and sore throat and she sneds him back to class.

I took him to dr who said hisglands are all enlarged and he is definatly not right/well and I should keep him off till Tuesday. If ds still unwell will have to go back for poss tests as may be something underlying - poss glandular fever altho he is a bit young. He is having trouble getting over the tonsillitis - altho last year he was poorly for a long time with scarlet fever.

I feel quite miffed with receptionist as am concerend that ds has gone to her (sent by teacher - 3 times in one day) and she just sends him straight back to class with no mention to me. Also when he has had bumps have had no bump notes from the school.

Think she is also pissed off with me as I had words with ds teacher yesterday about a dinner lady and she had to deal with it according to ds's teacher.

Thinking about a meeting with the head but dont want to make problems.

sounds like his immune system has taken a battering over the last yr

Could you give him a tonic/supplement to boost him a bit - floradix or similar?

I had glandular fever at 8 or 9 - its not nice, but tonics etc will help with that as well.

Sorry he seems to be having a tough time at school on top of it

poor you having that at 8. Bascailly if it is going around ds will catch it most likely. Give him multi vits every day and he has a very good diet - loves his fruit. veg and meat. Also does swimming, football and rugby outside of school. He is a solid little boy but right now he looks poorly too iykwim. Missing him terribly as has gone to his dad;s for weekend. Am pleased that he seemed happy to go as he has spent the last 3 days saying he didnt want to and crying. Think that is all part of him feeling grotty.
