Help. Does my 13 month old have measles?

My 13 month old had a temperature and was sick on Tuesday, temperature again on wed night. Seemed better on thursday and friday although a little whingeier than usual which I put down to teething. Horrendous night last night. He kept rubbing his head madly which I thought was his teeth and kept waking up and really crying. This morrning he has developed spots on his forehead and on his chest and in his hair which explains the head rubbing. He has not had his MMR yet. Anyone have experience of a child with measles - how can I best treat symptoms?

He needs to be seen by a doctor to confirm the type of spots he has. Could it be Chicken Pox?

Chicken pox is really easy to identify when it starts to blister, but most of the other rashy illnesses can be quite difficult to tell apart. There are about 18 viruses which look like measles (so my GP told me when dd had it) so I'd agree that you need to see a doctor to confirm what he's got.

see a doctor

on the bright side, if you are admitted to a children's unit you will get a nice private room

well i have to wait until monday to see my gp as i don't think this is an emergency. why do kids always get sick at the weekend? i've been looking at other threads and one was advised to see her pharmacist so might pop down the chemist now he has woken up as the itchy head seems to be bothering him the most and would be nice for him and me to get some sleep tonight. I rang nhs direct this morning for advice and they have still not got back to me. As wigwambam says it could be another virus so fingers crossed it is. thanks for responding.
