Laugh daily!

Make an effort to smile more and try smiling at strangers (without being creepy).
Spend time with playful people who make you laugh including pets and children.
Take yourself less seriously - share embarrassing moments and laugh at yourself. Remind yourself of a miserable person that you know so that you can avoid behaving like them (that really made me laugh for some reason!)
Try to find humour in bad or difficult situations rather than getting irritated or annoyed.
Build fun activities into your day such as watching comedies, going to a comedy club, reading comics, hosting a game night, reading funny books, telling jokes, karaoke, bowling, miniature golf, riding roller coasters and acting like a kid.
If smiling doesn't come naturally to you then practice laughing in front of the mirror until it does Grin

Ooh rhythmical and audible contractions of the diaphragm accompanied by a feeling of warmth, merriment and all round well being Grin

This is a very good rule to live by.

I've typed out 3 long threads detailing stuff but it all sounds nauseating.

Just having people you laugh till you cry with is priceless.

Thanks Socks

I only know one joke so I'll save it for later.

I'm looking forward to the jokes from you all! I'll have to try and think of one for you as well.

I think being able to laugh rather than getting stressed or pissed off with situations is definitely a good rule to live by. I try my best to do it and I think it's probably easier when you have somebody you can talk through things with and end up just taking the piss out of the situation.

this made me laugh a lot when DD was a baby, those of you with non-sleeping babies at the minute might like it.

I'm absolutely in awe of all of you who look after your children without the other parent or family support.

It's without doubt easier if you have someone to vent at.

Your link is very funny Socks Flowers

BE CONSISTENT! Grin

I read it when DD was waking on a half hourly basis and it was probably the only thing that could have possibly made me laugh at that time. And I'm good with lack of sleep!

Honestly, dealing with parenting alone is much easier than doing it with a useless DP. There's always MN to vent to if all else fails!

Well, in the spirit of the new thread (for which I thank thee), you did make me laugh with the previous link, so we're on the right path.

Nothing makes me laugh more than The life of Brian. So I'll re-watch it this week.

Hooray, finally a thread that I have nailed! All I have to do is spend time in DS's company and I'm on the floor laughing. He has such a fab SOH at the age of three.
Now he is sleeping a bit more that is. Thanks for the link oddsocks - I remember reading that before and laughing slightly hollowly!
And thanks for the thread Smile

Thankyou for kind comments on the last thread android thankyou for the new thread.

Having spent the last month unexpectedly temporarily single parenting while working full time from home during the Easter holidays looking after two dcs and no childcare thanks to living in a rural area I can echo that! It's been, let's say, totally without headspace for me. My hat is off.

Thanks for the thread. Couldn't agree more OddSocks, I find it easier to parent by myself than together with ex. I think sometimes it's a lonelier feeling in a relationship with the wrong person than actually by yourself. At least I know I'll get a night to myself every once in a while too :)

I would laugh at that link only I think my youngest is still following it. She was up and down all night, got up this morning and had her breakfast and fell asleep straight after. She's out for the count on the sofa now and I couldn't get back to sleep. It will be a long day.

Dd definitely makes me laugh a lot. That cute 3 year old phase with no filter on what she says and a brilliant imagination. Living in smallish town, it's the norm to smile and say hello to strangers when out and about too.

Yy Sirona I felt much less lonely when I split, I never would have thought that would be the case beforehand. I'm sure having a good partner is the easiest option but single is better than a shit partner by a long way. I wish more people knew that.

That link was pretty much all I laughed at when DD woke half hourly Grin I think it was the only thing that resonated, everything else could just fuck off at that point - I read it as I was rocking her to sleep for the 142373685337th time one night and felt better. Weird isn't it? Hope your DD sleeps better soon, they do get it eventually.

I can't smile at strangers, I'm in London - it would take me half the day to walk down the street with all that smiling. Plus I attract nutters. Those stories could make you all laugh actually, I'll come back and tell them when my brain turns back on (loooooong interview).

How lovely Bewitched, I really missed my mum when they lived abroad. I love having them live at home again now. Have you any nice plans made?

I don't know Odd, I'm kind of giving up hope now. She's 3.5yo and has been a pathetic sleeper since a few months and seems to be going through one of the fearful stages. Very clingy, crying about monsters at night and scared if I leave the room even during the daytime. Doesn't help that I'm a particularly light sleeper too. I've visited London a few times and could imagine how it's totally different to living here. I too am a weirdo magnet!

Honestly I could see me never living with anyone again, I'm too used to my own space now. They can stay a while then go back to their own house Grin

Music was my cause to smile today. Put the headphones on, some happy songs and sang very loudly and out of tune. My neighbours must love me.

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 11/04/2016 23:51

Singing loudly is very therapeutic Sirona, sensible neighbours would join in Grin

I promise to buy you an espresso martini Socks, to jog your memory.

I've learned not to make plans apart from managing without my car for the odd day with no notice! Everything subject to change at the last minute.

Another nutter magnet signing in

Can I join the nutter magnet gang? I always get stopped and asked directions too...

I need a good smile/laugh, as I've just had a looong meeting at school for dd2 regarding her falling asleep in the afternoon with SENDCO, OT and Disability Nurse. Who knew a child could fall asleep after lunch, in a warm classroom, listening to a book Hmm. This following a rubbish night by dd2 (I do bring her home for the afternoon if she's had a crap night). Hopefully we have a plan, now.

Also, after 4 weeks of taking the maca powder (which did get rid of the night sweats) I've had awful bloating and pain after eating. Some quick googling shows that raw powder is not good and in South America (where it comes from) it is always cooked. I'm now on the probiotics and back to the drawing board for perimenopausal symptoms. Definitely in need of laughter.

Dd2 did make me laugh yesterday, though. She doesn't say much but is very motivated by food Grin. We went to the park cafe for the first time in months and she loudly requested a "doonut", as her sister had had one last time. At dinner time, when asked if she wanted 1 or 2 more small sausages, she asked for 3 sausages, and when told no 1 or 2 sausages not 3, tried for 5 sausages! Needless to say she had apple juice in the cafe and 2 small sausages. Nice try though!

I smiled at a guy in the park today and he smiled back. It was nice.
I hope he didn't think I fancied him!

Nice to see fellow nutter magnets Grin

One of my favourites was a woman that wanted to chat at a bus stop telling me how I was so beautiful, I look like the love child of Debbie Harry and the Virgin Mary. She wanted to take me on holiday to Italy Confused

quirky go to Classics and read the thread on politeness/Britishness - it isn't often that I actually laugh at loud at something I read but that thread is hilarious. Hope DD is getting the help she needs soon!

Well done Purple Smile even if he did think you fancy him, you don't know him and probably won't see him again. Hopefully he saw it as the nice gesture it was and went on to have a slightly brighter day himself.
