help needed - 4 month old with a cold, could it be teething?

my 4 month old DS has what looks like a cold. snotty nose (sometimes blocked, sometimes runny)and is very grumpy. Could this be teething? His cheeks are rosy and he has been chewing his fingers. Does any one have any advice on what to give him? not been to a doctor because he was poorly last night but has been fine today, however he has just started with similar symptoms again. i have given him a dose of calpol in the hope that this will help him sleep.

i know most people will be thinking 'just take him to a doctor' which of course i will do if this continues. i just wondered if any one had any ideas.

thanks in advance

get hold of some teething powders, they are good when they teethe...! might be a bit of both, but rosy hot cheeks and chewing are often a sign of teething..! prop his mattress up a little which will help when he sleeps. he is also old enough for snuffle babe , which can help if he is congested. also, saline nose drops can help , a drop in each nostril before the feed can help dry out the nose to make feeding easier.

happy new year to you though! looking forward to meeting you on tuesday!

thanks lulu. he has been fine all day after a pretty bad night, but has just started to get himself worked up. He is now in bed, but seems to panick a little when he realises that his nose is blocked. Hopefully the calpol will help him to sleep.

will be out searching for the things that you have recommended tomorrow.

Happy New Year to you and your family. Hope you have a lovely evening.

Looking forward to seeing you on Tuesday

just sent DH out for snuffle babe, already have cooling powders so will give him some in the morning if the symptoms continue. Have put a towel under the mattress to raise it a little (we used to do this with his moses basket)

thanks again x

Baby Albas oil is good left on a tissue near the cot (away from little figures) it helps with the vapors to clear little noses.

My one year old is full of snot and coughing so much - it breaks my heart to see

one word "medised". it's amazing for little stuffy noses and i think it's much more sedative than calpol...

Agree with Simply - Olbas Oil(kids stuff) is great - I put some on a tissue in DS's cot and he slept really well.

Hope he is better by Tuesday - looking forward to meeting you and him then X
