I caught DH letting DS3 swig from his beer the other night and he's taking amxicillin ATM for scarlet fever and tonsillitus.

There was no ill effects though...apart from DH getting an earful of my wrath!

I'm pretty sure the one to avoid alcohol with is metronidazole. Think it makes you really sick (but not certain so don't quote me on that!)

You can drink with most antibiotics - apart from metronidazole which is the one they give you for tooth absesses! When metronidazole is prescribed it actually says on the label avoid alcohol, whereas with all the others it doesn't mention alcohol.

If your still unsure do a google on penicillin and alcohol and it'll tell you if there are any bad effects. You'll be fine!

Lulu, you'll be fine. If anything the alcohol will lessent he effect of the Ab's. A couple/few galsses won't have a detrimental effect.

Mentronidazole is a horrid Ab as it can give you bad tummy upset buy itself! Mixing it with alcohol is not good, at all.

Have a great time

it says on the tablets i take to avoid alcohol but i managed to drink a bottle of wine boxing day. i am still here to tell the tale. i didn't even feel rough the next day which is quite strange as i usually do after that amount of booze.

enjoy your new year lulumama.

lulumama - they were AD's too. i felt fine waking up, no hangover.

one question i meant to ask you as you have crohns and i suspect i have too, does too much alcohol irritate you? just wondering.

lulumama · 28/12/2006 21:26

not really, strawberry.......but i don;t drink to excess anyway as hangover and young kids don;t mix.....

BUT..if i go out for dinner and have a big meal, ie 3 courses and a drink or two , i suffer .....

at home i eat lightly ( well, small meals, but plenty of snacks!) and early too....eating late not good for me
