Mooncup - first time user help for heavy flow

So, I had a little practice last month at the end of my period and quite literally struggled to get the sucker out! I have extremely heavy periods- I can flood a super plus extra in half an hour during a very heavy flow and I take tranexamic acid to manage them as it's the only way I can sleep at night - I just flood every hour otherwise.

Questions - any tips on how to release the suction without making too much of a mess? And how often should I empty it given that I have a heavy (and clotty) flow?

I really want to give the Mooncup a go and to love it but am wary as I panicked a bit trying to tug it out last month. I'd also like to cut back on the tranexamic acid taking and am quite sick of having to worry about leaking for the first few days. So tips on getting the sucker out please!
