Week 6 of 52 small changes - it's easy!

OddSocksHighHeels · 30/01/2016 23:37

After last week being pretty huge for a small change we get a nice easy one this week!

Take a daily multivitamin. That's it Smile

Some of you probably already do so feel free to add your own challenge instead this week. I don't and this is a quick and easy fix for me though I will need to buy some tomorrow.

Last week if you missed it: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/general_health/2555507-Week-5-of-52-small-changes-a-focus-on-our-mental-health?pg=1&order=

And a reminder of previous weeks: drinking more water, aiming for better sleep, getting activity into each day, keeping a food diary and attempting to be more optimistic.

Everybody is welcome to join at any point and as Bewitched said previously: there is no failure. It's doing the best that you can personally do.

Hooray week six! I do this everyday already.

I think rather than add a new habit I'll use this week to focus on sleep as I was camping during sleep week. And try and consolidate the other habits.

I think that is in the spirt of this .

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 31/01/2016 01:27

It's definitely in the spirt ICJ

Am very partial to a good spirt Grin

Thank goodness for an easy one this week, I was starting to worry that each one was going to be more demanding or difficult.

A good week to consolidate all the other stuff that suits each of us, or ramp up one of the things we haven't managed.

So for me that would be water and activity. Am rubbish at those two.

Am happy with what I eat, and how I sleep, and am probably nauseatingly optimistic.

Thanks for posting and sorry for just lurking.

I still have pregnacare vitamins left over, so started taking them to finish them up. I'm still breastfeeding so thought they'd be fine. Managed to totally freak my family out though. Grin

Thanks oddsocks. I'm not sure I will include this one tbh. I eat around 10 fruit and veg a day. I take a vit b around my period starting. Not sure I need one every day. I'm going to focus instead this week on really doing all the others properly instead. Still really enjoying the thread though. Happy week 6 all.

I'm already taking a daily vitamin but i need to work a bit on exercise so I'll do that and add in some decluttering that needs to happen. So, I need to declutter ( which includes getting the stuff out of the house!)

Thanks oddsocks!
I'm meant to take prescription vit D which I usually forget so I'm going to try to do that this week.
I eat a tonne of fruit and veg so don't really worry about other vitamins.

Ooh I've only just seen this, but I'm really keen to join in.

I'm a SAHM to a 2 year old with another due in April and I feel a bit stuck in a rut right now. These ideas seem just the kind of thing I need. Whether I'll have a hope of carrying anything on from April onwards is another question...!

Oh that's a simple one, though I am crap at remembering to take anything! So good for me, while giving time to restock a bit.

bewitched you're not going to be, like, all positive and making us feel better and stuff are you?! Grin

As always, thanks oddsocks Smile

I don't take a multivitamin, but I do take vit d, cod liver oil, magnesium (just started) and agnus castus (for pmt/perimenopausal symptoms).

Sleep: better last night, almost 8hrs! I am averaging 7hrs 20mins (yay), this is a long term change
Water: generally good
Activity: walking plenty and doing yoga, I need to restart my weights and eventually do some cardio
Food: generally good, but could do with being a bit stricter with low carbs (same weight but I have lost 2% body fat in the last 2 weeks)
Mental health: doing Headspace most days, trying to remember the gratitude diary: needs some work

I do like the little steps, I find I am much more likely to make things into a habit. Thanks oddsocks!

Nice one, thanks Socks :)

I should be taking my vitamin D and I'm supposed to have another blood test. Keep not bothering forgetting Blush

Thanks OddSocks
Big sigh of relief at this one. I take vit D and some plant sterols (to hopefully ward off my paternal family history of awful cardiovascular disease) every most days.
I'm going to concentrate on positive thinking and doing at work, and more activity cause I'm a lazy cow!

I did a big sigh of relief at this one too! I think because it's not something that's time-consuming it should be easier to remember the other weeks as well and keep them going.

Phew, nice easy one, thanks OddSocks. I used to take a multivitamin but have got out of the habit. Probably wouldn't do me any harm as my fruit and veg intake can be sporadic at times, will pick up some tomorrow.

Today is a total write off. I rarely drink these days but hit the wine last night as my knees are giving me jip so took the weekend off training. Paying big time for it today hangover wise and have barely scraped myself off the sofa all day. Dc a bit under the weather with a cold so luckily they are happy enough vegging out with Netflix. Shall be back at it tomorrow.

Sirona taking a day of rest is fine! I'm a great believer in 80/20 rule, 80% sticking to your goals and 20% leeway (sometimes it might be less than 80%!).

I have managed 7 1/2hrs sleep, I notice from my Fitbit logs, I'm not getting to bed before 10:30pm unless I crash out on the sofa. Whoever said it on the last thread, I need someone to tell me to go to bed! Tricky, as dp like to stay up late. I need to go up before the news, I might restart setting a go to bed alarm on my phone.

I have managed a Headspace this morning, but no yoga, as not enough time. I need to go check dd2 and see if she is well enough for school today as she had a nasty cold yesterday and is supposed to be going on a PE multi-skills trip Hmm. That might put paid to yoga this morning, or anything else I need to do today...

I'm in (had to just forget about last week as work is so utterly miserable that the best I can do at the moment is survive it. I think thinking about optimism or my mental health in any detail might have lead to complete collapse!)

I'm tweaking this week a little. I'm going to use it to remember to put my psoraisis creams on every day so that they actually work Grin

I think there are a couple of us here also on the bullet journal thread. So I thought I'd show the habit tracker I set up this week. I'm not sure how it will work when there is 52 habits to track but I'll redesign if needed.

Well, I'm at home with dd2 who has sticky eyes (common with ds) and had a temp this morning. We have already been to the doctor this morning to check out a persistent rash around her mouth, trying a different steroid cream, now. Stuck on the sofa with a smallish person on my lap and Singing Hands dvd on loop, not sure about what that will do for my mental health!

That looks good ICJump. I have done something similar other when on a health drive. Perhaps you wouldn't need to track everything by week 52, as surely the first changes will have become habits by then .

Good idea ICJ

Hope your dd feels better soon quirky. My ds tends to get bad eyes with viruses too for some reason.

I have unwell ones here too. Dd has a red sore throat, can hardly get her to eat anything and she wouldn't settle unless she was lying right on top of me last night so not much sleep had. Trying to get through to the docs as she's meant to be getting her pre-school injections later so want to check with them if it's still ok to go ahead or give calpol. Ds was complaining of his throat this morning too and coughing away - this looks to be panning out to be one of those weeks.

Haven't been drinking water at all today, powered by caffeine but I did start with a multivitamin and bought loads of fruit and veg earlier.

Pointlessfan · 01/02/2016 13:37

I have the sore throat/achy virus too. Had some soup but don't fancy eating or drinking much except hot orange squash.

Thanks Sirona dd2 has Down's Syndrome and so gets watery/sticky eyes with colds as the snot literally goes up the narrow tube into her eyes. Eww. She's unfortunately well enough to be a pain at home.

I have a sore throat too, I'm hoping it will go...

Anyone on a Fitbit, you can register your steps for Sports Relief, they are trying to get a billion steps Shock. It looks quite fun and motivating.

Ok so far:

Water - good, 1.5 litres so far
Sleep - I had 5 hours last night. I'm drinking coffee now which I know won't help but I want coffee so I'm having one!
Activity - I've had a walk around today and helped my friend with her housework because she's been really unwell so I've been reasonably active
Food - haven't logged it yet, I haven't eaten enough today though but I'm ordering us a Chinese and a bottle of wine for later so that should top up my calories for the day. Might not be the best way to go about it but it's what we both want!
Positivity - yeah, I'm ok I guess Grin I feel good at having got things done and I'm looking forward to having a nice evening with wine, food, TV and a good friend to chat away too!
Multivitamin - done
