feel breathless even after fever gone? I'm a week in and still have an occasional cough, but feel like I'm breathing through a sponge which makes me panicky - which in turn doesn't help Confused

If I had a secondary chest infection I'd be coughing green gunk and have a proper fever, no?

I'm with you. It's grotty and the cough really persists. I am now into the hacking up chunks of grossness stage. It's lovely innit. Have you got an inhaler? I'm asthmatic so have resorted to mine a fair bit. Day Nurse and Night Nurse are your friends....

I was going to post about this...

I think I have this (but had flu jab) I am currently laid up in bed quite chesty aching all over, temperature - felt ill yesterday.

Luckily my flatmate is home today and between going out has been very kind cooking food for me and went to shops for extra painkillers etc.

I've got no idea about a secondary chest infection as I've only had things go only chest in the past (with nasty green gunk) and proper bronchitis which was truly nasty and lasted 2 weeks with antibiotics for it to go away.

Do you get asthma? If so are you taking an inhaler? If you're not feeling better now I'd be tempted to see your doctor.

Feel better soon Flowers

Up to 3 weeks is normal I'm afraid. You have my commiserations because I've got the same thing.

Someone at work (admittedly she's late 60s has been off for 3 weeks with it. It's really nasty.

Does your chest feel very tight?

sparkletastic I hope mine isn't what you and OP have!

I only generally take painkillers, tyrozets for illness like this, lemsip at night, when I took Night Nurse once I found it super strong and not pleasant so I stay away from it now!

Bloody hell 3 weeks I'm only allowed 10 days off work and not into my probation period yet.

starts praying it isn't that illness

I don't mean seriously ill for 3 weeks. Most of the people I know who've had it were only "bed-rest ill" for 2 days. But the cough and breathlessness can drag on for weeks.

Namechange thanks for that! Smile

I've had bronchitis and got flu every year (sometimes 2 and 3 x) before I was diagnosed with asthma and got flu jabs, they really help.

I may take tomorrow off work and Tuesday if I feel really shit.

It's a bastard. It takes me ages to get rid of it.

We've all got it here too (outskirts of London) DD has just got out of hospital for pneumonia so I'm not very happy to say the least. Chugging paracetamol and cough syrup atm... Trying to keep on top of boogies as we've a ds (14 weeks) who had bronch in December...

I've decided I now hate Winter x

Oh yeah and we've all had a flu jab...

That all sounds quite reassuring, thank you and sorry to hear so many are unwell - its a nasty one for sure.

Not couhging up green gunk at all. Not asthmatic (dh is, so I tried his inhaler earlier which made no difference). Do tend to get anxious, so know that doesn't help - and makes it hard to know how seriously to take things.

I tried to sing a bit earlier (just got a voice back and girls had music on) and that's what kicked it off tonight.

And yes, I had flu jab too but then if it IS flu - I had it mildly, as temp never went above 38. If it isn't, but just a 'flu like virus' then jab wouldn't work anyway.

Do hope you all feel better soon, in the meantime very welcome to keep me company! Flowers

Doublebubblebubble at least I had the pneumonia jab a few years ago (which lasts a lifetime) made the arm I had it in hurt like buggery though...

I know I'm properly sick as I sometimes can go into work dosed up on cold/flu remedies if a bit ill but this no way I could manage my already tricky commute (at least 4 changes and on tube/train with rare seats) without it killing me.

OP I recall reading or hearing recently (last week) that this current virus if it is flu people have been getting it regardless of having the flu jab so it's a nasty one!

Report
Sparkletastic · 24/01/2016 18:21

Yeah don't think it's flu but nasty close relation to it. Night nurse is strong stuff but I needed to knock myself out to stop the night cough. I was looking so grey and hollow eyed even Touche Eclat wasn't helping Wink

And when I was telling friend that at least Nightnurse was giving some relief she asked if I wasn't worried about all the calories in it Hmm

Blimey- I hope you told your 'friend' to FUCK OFF!

This hideous virus is bad enough without worrying about whether or not your loosing enough weight on it Hmm

I was nonplussed by her concern over my calorie intake versus my hacking up a lung every night. She does come out with some corkers every now and then. Not exactly one of the sisterhood.

Yep, I have had it on and off since the beginning of December. Now have a chest infection.

All my DC have developed cough/colds since Thursday/Friday last week.
