Strange sensation in scalp

For a few years now I have had a very strange feeling in my scalp. I can only think to describe it as an itch but that's not really what it is.

When I have a shower and the water beats down on my head I get an massive urge to turn the water pressure up so that it massages my head even more. And even then I am not satisfied.

I have tried using a scalp massager but it seems to make it worse and besides I massage my shampoo into my scalp so there shouldn't be much tension.

Does anybody know what this is?
