My daughter whos nearly 10 told me yesterday that she has had a lump for about a week that is painful. Its behind the nipple and although painful not agonising as it would be if it was an abcess. Is this just the start of puberty or shall I get it checked (family history of breast cancer) Has anyone elses dd had this? What was the outcome?

It is most likely her breast developing and it can be painful .My dd had little lumps behind th e nipple and they came one at a time.Get ready for the hormones !

Yes think this is just the start of breasts developing - I remember the same happening to me and being very worried...

Same thing happened with my DD. I took her to the doctor because the lump was not under the nipple however it was just the start of breast development. If you are concerned, no problem in getting it checked out. Female doctor was lovely to DD.

She's been hormonal since birth!

No signs of any other puberty symptons, do you think I should just keep an eye on it then?
