Phlegm and vomiting (2yr old)

DS (2.5) has had a cold, runny nose, chesty cough for a little while but is OK in himself really.

Yesterday morning, just after he got up he vomited up some phlegm. This morning it was a bit more spectacular (as he'd had his breakfast), he vomited up all his porridge and a load of phlegm. He didn't cough or anything before it happened it just...well..came pouring out.

I'm presuming its his body just getting rid of the gunk thats run down his throat during the night. Is it something that will just get better or is the amount of phlegm a concern? Can I do anything to help him?

(On the funny side DS was snuggled up next to me whilst i was on the laptop when it happened. I was catching the sick in my hands and asked DD(7) to quickly get some kitchen roll/towel/anything. She came back after what seemed like 5 mins with one square of kitchen roll by which time my two cupped hands were overflowing! )

'catching sick in hands' - something only a mother could do, eh?
I wouldn't worry too much, if he's feeling himself, but would probably see the doctor on monday just to rule out a chest infection.

DD did the puking phelgm thing this morning. Lurvely isn't it
Maybe steer clear of things with dairy in them for a day or two (cereal included!) as this makes phelgm thicker and not great when you have heavy cold.

I can still smell the sick now despite numerous handwashes and spraying of essential oils!

I wondered about a chest infection too- he sounds quite rattly and phlegmy but I know from past experience that this doesn't necessarily mean its an infection.

Actually I can hear him now hassling DP for some toast -poor thing must be hungry!

Rub your hands with sugar, it's supposed to help...don't ask!
If it's a chest infection I would expect high temps too (that's what ds had with pneumonia) Hope it's not.

Will check his temp but I think its OK.

Right, I'm off for a shower as I really need to shake off this delightful aroma of L'eau De Vomit !

Let him have the toast he is clamouring for. Ds2 did this once when he was nearly 3: ate porridge for breakfast, spectacularly threw the lot up all over the toilet and back wall (ie was standing in front of loo and still didn't get it in the right place!) and then went on to demand more breakfast! I gave him toast and he seemed fine so he even went to playgroup! In fact, he was fine afterwards. It was just a one off thing. It mystifies me to this day, but I can only assume he had a cold at the time (I have forgotten, but he usually did have a cold at that age!) and he was gettting rid of the phlegm.

Bumping for the evening crowd in case anyone has any tips on how to avoid catching phlegmy vomit again tomorrow (especially as its bound to happen on the school run! )

Hes been fine in himself today but is completely off his food which is not like him at all.
