dd (18mo) came out in hive like nettle rash two days ago. lasted about 1 hr hive appearing disappeareing elsewhere, Happened again last night at same time, but went on all night. had no piritin(sp) in so nothing to give her, seemed happy in herself. Has had a mild cold,(and gloopy eye) so nhsdirect say p[rob a virus, but i googled and it said can last fgor up to 6 weeks!! any ine epperience this recently? IS it part of virus going round?
worried about food allergy as other dd has egg allergy, but havent changed her diet...

DS2 has had this recently - he's 5. Came up in hives at some point every day for about 4 weeks. DH and I were saying at the weekend that it doesn't seem to be happening as frequently or as badly at the moment, so perhaps it was a reaction to a virus with him. We went swimming on Saturday and he did have one hive below his eye and one on his body, but we haven't noticed them for a week or so. Took him to the doctor who just suggested Piriton.

DD2 had two episodes of this earlier in the year - both fairly extensive and the 2nd required a visit to the local Children's Ward as her face and mouth were swelling up too. Considered opinion at the time was that it was caused by a virus and this appears to have been correct as there have been no reoccurances. HTH.

Sorry I am just so please that someone else has experience of this.
When my DD was about 2.5-3.5 she would come out in this rash whenever we would go outside, it was winter so the areas exposed to the air were face, hands and ankles, where trousers ride up sitting in pushchair.

It only happened outside and would go after being indoors for about 30 mins. It didnt bother her at all except for the nasty comments that she would get from adults!!!!!!!!!

The longer we were outside the worse it got. If she was under her raincover she didnt seem to get it!

Dr said it was urticaria and probably caused by an allergen in the air!

This went on for a few months then just stopped!

No medication helped.

Ds had this back in summer the GP thought it was caused by a virus, it disappeared within 24 hours. I also had it about 10 years ago, doctors also thought that mine was caused by a virus but unfortunately my rash lasted 6 months!

We didn't find the Piriton helped much, Busymum, because the hives went down quickly anyway. DS2 seems to get them on exposed parts of the body and often when he is either hot or cold - ie in the shower or in the park. He also gets them on contact - tight fitting trousers round the waistband, or if he's been wrestling with his brother.

As I say, not had too many lately...
