Pain in the outside edge of both hands?

Katymac · 30/09/2015 22:39

Sort of 2/3 down towards the wrist - real achy but not too much swelling or lump

Think it's the wrong side for Carpel tunnel - gout seems to be less symmetrical

So I have no ideas - anyone got any suggestions

I have a GP appointment soonish & I will mention it - but everything I have is CFS or Fibromyalgia, so I thought I'd look for ideas here too

Possibly a radiation from your neck.

Oh that's interesting - do you think GP or wait 'til it goes?

I had something like this in my left hand, it kind of suddenly 'went' one day when there was no pressure. If sitting if I had to push myself up on that hand it'd just collapse on me. No major pain unless it was poked. Amusing rather than out and out painful.

I went for physio which made it worse, was told to stop (duh!). Was told to not move it so I'd wear a Velcro wrist and thumb support which really helped. Had an X-ray which showed damage to one bone, had another which showed no real damage but possible cartilage damage. Ended up with an MRI which ruled out everything!

Old age and slight arthritis Confused

It's almost ok now, comes and goes if I've been using that hand but a few days of not using it seems to fix it. Peeling potatoes is a killer though!

I was looking at TFCC injuries as it seems to match mine.

Have you been karate chopping concrete blocks?

No Karate but I imagine it would cause the same sort of pain

Thanks HellKitty - I'll have a look

It sounds like a nerve irritation, either peripherally or, more likely as it's both hands, from your neck. Do you get much neck pain with your Fibromyalgia? If that's been playing up recently, it might have sensitised the nerves at that level, and be sending symptoms down your arms? If you have persistent/longstanding pain, your whole nervous system can be very sensitive to any changes (physical or emotional) and can give you new and random symptoms. Hope it clears up soon Flowers

Well I'm 7 weeks post B12 injection so that normally makes my nerves play up - but usually pins & needles/neuralgia and numb bits with odd firing nerve pain not this constant ache

The GP said fm & offered prozac but I'm not convinced

I'll look some stuff upp but nothing will every get diagnosed as I already have CFS/FM & IBS so I'm not allowed to have anything else (apart from depression)

Thanks for the suggestions

Hang n I had a CT scan in January (I think) which suggested some constriction in my neck vertebrae could that be significant?

Changes in the neck joints (these are usually quite normal, age related) could definitely contribute to arm symptoms. Trouble is, scans can show stuff that may well have been there for ages, and actually don't often fully explain someone's symptoms . Try to keep your neck, upper back and arms moving as normally as you are able, watch your posture and take your analgesics.

Check out Cubital Tunnel Syndrome, which goes hand in hand (no pun intended with the sort of thyroidy, low B12, low vitamin D picture you present.

I'm struggling finding anything other than post-op care for Cubital Tunnel Syndrome

But I'll keep looking

Just had Thyroid & hormone blood tests come back 'fine'
