Thrush treatment. TMI

I've been diagnosed with thrush after getting a swab for what I initially thought was bv. I used the canesten gel pessary last night and this morning, there was a jelly like substance with bits of white lumps on the tissue when I wiped myself. Is this the pessary flushing the thrush out? How long does it take for the pessary to work?

TIA

Depends how bad it was. I got prescribed the NHS equivalent to the canesten duo with a pill and a cream but it took a couple weeks to clear

It's worth thinking about your diet for a bit too - avoiding bread (yeast) and mushrooms and refined sugar can help to get rid of it too.

I find it takes 3-4 days for all of that to go away after a pessary but they do work better than tablets on their own I think. I too avoid sugar and yeast daily and try to alternate them. I also bath area in diluted tea tree oil once a day too

Does changing your diet make a difference? I've read up lots of conflicting information. As a vegetarian, it's going to be tough for me to give up things like marmite and bread.

Yeah conflicting advice but I get it so often I'll try anything! Mine def worse and more likely to come on if I've had a glut of sugar.

I got really bad thrush when breast feeding and the drugs wouldn't touch it - a few weeks on a detox type diet and it went - I'd had it for months.

I do notice that I tend to get it when I'm eating lots of bread. I'm veggie too!

Probably a daft question but what is a sure sign that the treatment has worked? I started using the cream and the pessary on Saturday night but I've been getting a paste like whitish substance on my knickers which I guess is the thrush?
At what point should I start looking for an alternative treatment? I don't have any itchiness which is why I was surprised that it was thrush and not bv.

Are you sure the paste like whitish substandce isn't the pessary/cream?

Yoghurt, lots of it!
Live and natural
Eat it and put it in your vagina.
Don't use soap, especially avoid anything with perfume. Loose cotton clothes and no pants as much as possible.
And yes, the gunk is the pessary dissolving.
Sorry, quick brain dump of things which help from experience. As well as the avoiding yeast, sugar, and especially alcohol as pps have said.
Hope it clears up soon

dobeedo I used a pessary for the first time last week and I likened it to a bath bomb for my vag Blush I'm still applying cream, going pantless and wearing panty liners to catch the stuff!

Thanks for replies.

Itsall, I used the pessary on Saturday, should I still have bits of it 5 days later? It's a different appearance to what I had on Sunday. More like thick paper mâché glue.

It does say to use for 7 days but I was hoping it would've sooner.

I used it on Friday and still have the odd blob, so I'm going to say its normal!
