Surprised but intrigued but GPs suggestion...

I have a skin tag on my forearm which has got increasingly baggy over the last couple of years. It's been cleared as anything sinister, but I'm a bit self conscious about it and sometimes catch it, which is uncomfortable. Anyhoo, the locum GP noticed it this week and said that another GP in the practice is a specialist and can remove it....or, that some people tie cotton round it and it just drops off, leaves less of a scar apparently.

So, how do I do that? Anyone got any experience of it? Do I just get DH to tightly wrap a bit of common or garden round it? How long until the bugger drops off? Is the locum GP nuts?

Get it removed by the GP. It is a very simple procedure. Job done.

Our GP told DH to get rid of his skin tags with cotton thread tightly tied round them for a couple of weeks. Worked perfectly.

I tied cotton around mine, it fell off after a while.

Dh had a skin tag in his groin a few years ago and the GP suggested tying thread around it. He did so, got bored and snipped it off with scissors, much to mine and the kids' amusement and delight!

But the tying cotton thing does work if you're patient enough. You have to tie it quite tight.

My sister had one on her lip. Until she drank a shitload of tequila one night and woke the next morning hungover to find it gone.

I pulled one off my neck Blush

My mum's done the cotton thing though. It does work.

My GP sprayed some liquid nitrogen onto my skin tag and it fell off a few days later.

Apparently wart remover gets them off ,we are currently trying the cotton / dental floss thing on a skin tag that DH has . If it's a small tag you can get them off with tea tree oil - we did that with another one of DHs .

It's fairly big - about 5mm across. I'm a big pain wuss, and am weirdly thinking that the cotton would be the best option. Not sure I can bear to ask DH to do it, though!

What do you reckon? A week to fall off with cotton?

I used to collect dropped lambs tails from the field behind my grandparents house when I was a kid. So wrong

I've got one on my neck, I think I would look odd walking round with cotton tied around it though.

Dh had one on his eyelid, he just kept twisting it and pulling it, eventually went black on fell off.

I'm too squeamish to do it to myself though, maybe gp is the way forward, I didn't realise they did it.

Actually minor ops isn't under the list of services that your GP has to provide - they may refer you to another centre.

Literally though it is a case of tying a small piece of cotton string , you can trim down to size so ends are v small. Leave for 1-2wewks. Painless.

I too did this. If the base of the tag is small I'd say it would be easier. It did hurt when first tied but the pain was gone in a few seconds.

I twisted a few of my small ones off!
just kept twisting and twisting, bit sore but not much, and then they went black and came off and with no scar.

I had a few removed by practice nurse a few years ago, but they don't do it anymore. Shame, I've got loads on my neck/chest now.

Cotton tied round is not painless at all. It hurts! I got fed up waiting for the one under my arm to fall off and got dh to cut it off with hairdressing scissors instead. It bled a lot but hasn't come back
