Post Viral Fatigue Syndrome

years ago I was diagnosed with post viral fatigue syndrome. GP didnt explain it to me and at the time I was too ill to be bothered asking. He gave me ADs, after a few months I improved and trotted on my way.

I have had 2 relapses since then.

Someone today, told me it was the same thing as ME . Is it ?

ME always sounds so serious.

I don't know if it is connected poppies but my Dd2 was diagnosed with post viral fatigue syndrome when she was about 4.

She had had quite a few coughs, colds etc in a short space of time and was very tired, withdrawn and seemed to be very stressed out. She was reffered to a pead who did lots of tests and came up with that.

I was told it could just go or could reoccur everytime she is ill and tbh I think it does as it takes her ages to recover from the slightest cold.

PVF is less serious than CFS/ME - but the sysmotoms are the same....it just lasts for less time (supposedly??)

my mum had ME and was diagnosed with it about 10 years ago.

She was told it would be considered to be post viral fatigue syndrome until she had it for at least 2 years. Then it would be investigated further to see if it was ME.

Remember if it is ME there is different levels of severity in it.

Did that make any sense?

Sorry

Myalgic encephelitus (ME) is an older name for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

Post Viral Fatigue is a temporary (??) condition that I understood to be transitiory

CFS is usually diagnosed when PVF lasts for over 6 months....according to my specialist in 1996

Ah, that makes me feel a bit better. Didnt want 'ME' ! LOL

Not that it changes anything of course, but just didnt want that label!

4 Nutcracker poor little mite I can sympathise with her. I never just get a 'cold', as such, I always seem to be iller (if thats a word!!)
