Toddler keeps hiding one eye from the sun, with his hand, what could be the reason for this

Taken him to the opticians who wouldn't even look at his eye and said take him to the GP for a hospital referral
Which I will do

But I feel sorry for him going through a load of tests if they are not really needed
There's no redness to his eye
They don't cross over or turn outwards or anything
There is no obvious problems with vision

So although I Will take him to the go for referral
I'm wondering what it could be

What's worrying is it's only one eye he covers in the sun
