Red, sore & swollen finger

DS2 somehow injured his finger a week or so ago. It's been sore but not red or anything until this weekend. Now it's puffy and manky and I assume he's got some sort of infection in it. There's nothing visibly stuck in it or anything.

I've made an appointment at the GPs for Thursday but is there anything I can do to make it better in the meantime? If it were my finger, I'd sit with it in a pot of water as hot as I could bear but I can't expect a 5yo to manage that.

I would try & get a sooner appt - if it is infected in any way, the sooner its seen the better I would think

This is the sooner appoint - to see my own doc was next week (the receptionist was horrified at this btw)

Toying with visiting Minor Injuries but I don't think this is what they're for really.

by manky so you mean there is something in it, or it is bruised ?? If he is in pain, I'd take him to hospital....

There's nothing in it, it's just pouffy & weepy and hurts if it's touched (but only if it's touched). Other than that he's on top form.

Might send DH off to MI with him when he gets back from work. It's not so bad a manky finger that it needs me to load all 3 of them up and drag them out.

That was one of my thoughts given he doesn't have any recollection of actually injuring the finger.

Why does he have to do this when my GP centre is one doc down and snowed under? My children are only ever in need of a doctor when it's not convenient.
