Fatigue - low vit D & B12 - what next?

I'm having ongoing problems with fatigue - I'm just so so tired all the time.

Had a whole barrage of tests done which showed low B12 and very low vit D levels. Having B12 injections (initial loading doses and now every 8-10 weeks) and had an intensive 7 week course of vit D tablets too. I did start to feel quite a lot better but it's got worse again. Sad

Other tests have all been clear: thyroid, iron levels, calcium, IF and parietal cells came back negative, I'm not coeliac, liver function good.

Probably worth mentioning I am under quite a lot of stress, which dh and I are trying to sort out but there is no instant fix.

I'm just so exhausted all the time, finding everyday life a real challenge. If anyone has any experience to share or advice I'd be so grateful. GP is very sympathetic and says next step is repeat Vit D test (not easy to get on the NHS it would seem) and referral to endocrinology.

Do you have the exact results for thyroid and iron? If you do, they would be interesting to see. If you don't, you should consider getting a copy and having a look at the actual figures.

When they told me I didn't have a problem with iron stores (ferritin) I was one point off the bottom of a very wide range!

I don't have exact figures to hand mrstweedie but when discussed with the GP they were both well into the desired range as she explained it. In fact the iron was "really very good" I will ask about it again though.

It's worth getting the exact figures and the reference ranges if you can, and also doing a bit of research yourself. There's a lot of difference between 'in range' and optimal.

You could try magnesium.

Thanks Misty have in fact just bought a supplement with magnesium in it. Fingers crossed it helps. I'm so fed up - it's ds's birthday today and I am struggling to join in Sad

have you had a celiacs test? you also might need more regular b12? did they also test thyroid antibodies?

Coeliac and thyroid tests came back clear. Is thyroid antibodies a different thing? GP has said I can have B12 every 8 weeks (she has been great)

I wonder if I need more vitamin D? Could I not be absorbing that properly?

Oh that's interesting Alpaca. I don't sit in the sun much as I'm fair skinned and get too hot. Will try and do it more. They reckon 20mins a day don't they?

Have you started vit b12 injections? Is another one due? It's possible you are running low before your next one?

Yes I'm up to date on B12. Had a course of loading doses 3 months ago and another injection last week. Recent injection didn't have the miraculous effect I was hoping for though Sad

I have CS/FM & IBS

I also have low B12, Low Vit D, low zinc & low folate; I take a spray Vit D & B12 as I think absorption is my problem, the zinc as zinc sulphate gave me tummy problems but I take it as Zince gluconate & it's fine

I've also started an anti-histamine for something else & it's helping my tummy issues
