Aero - I know, having done a search, that you've had similar issues - sorry to namecheck you, but we need help.
DD (5) has had discharge in her knickers for weeks now, not smelly but green/yellow and quite often quite a lot of it. First visit to docs involved a swab which came back negative and advice to use Canesten in case it was thrush. Subsequent urine sample also negative, although some evidence of white blood cells in urine.
Doc, having spoken to paed team, says in view of negative tests that it's unlikely to be an infection, more probably physiological but something that's not unusual in girls this age. Advised to wash carefully with water only regularly (which we have already been doing assiduously) and it should settle down. Well it's not settling down, she is a little red down there and slightly shrivelled (IYKWIM) and she's upset about the state of her knickers.
Two weeks of Canesten have had no effect, so the doc said we can stop that.
The doc said to physically investigate further, anaesthetic would be required which they really don't want to do. I don't disagree with that, but really want to get it sorted.
Aero and anyone else with similar experience - did/does using a few drops of tea tree and lavender in the bathwater make a difference? Anyone got any other ideas?
Basically we're left with having to wait another two weeks "to see if it settles down" before anything else is done and I'm not looking forward to explaining that to DD when she gets back from school.
I've searched all the previous threads on this but would welcome any new advice/updates on what happened which might help. TIA.

Quick list of suggestions as i am on way out the door. So sorry your dd is having to put up with this - it is so embarrassing for her.
First, check for thread worms and treat. This is the commonest cause of discharge in little girls.

2nd - any chance at all she could have pushed something in there? this is also a common cause, but usually in younger children.

3rd - what are you washing her underwear in? I would advice non biological powder or liquid and no fabric softner. Boil her knickers if possible - check the labels first!

Use fragrance free baby wipes instead of toilet paper to clean anus if necessary, other wise plain water, clean cotton wool and always wipe front to back.
I would repeat the swab - laboratories do occasionally make mistakes. HTH and good luck. I am surprised GP says GA would be necessary for further investigation - does that mean they have had a really good look with torch etc already? my dd had a similar problem - was a vaginal bug caused by threadworms and subsequent scratching, she was 4 and made no fuss at all when gp examined her v. gently.

I'd consider asking for a paed referral TBH, it could be a number of things and a foreign body is one - as 3littlefrogs says she may not necessarily need an anaesthetic to check that out. My neice had something similar for ages and I think it settled down when she got an antibiotic (metronidazole). HTH

Hi - thanks guys. No she's not itchy, nor does she scratch or give any indication of threadworms. She's not a fiddler so unlikely to have pushed anything in. Underwear washed (separately and hot) in Filetti, but will move to Ecover to see if that helps. Never use softener on kids' stuff - eczema issues - same reason we never use bubble bath and rarely use soap, certainly none with SLS etc in. She seems good on the front to back/don't use the same piece of paper drill when wiping.

Funnily enough, tonight there was not much evidence at all, but if it picks up again this week we'll definitely make another appointment and try to get it checked again. DW, who was there at the time, is not altogether happy that the first swab was sufficiently well done, so we'll see. Thanks again.
