Too fat for selective surgery?

Has anyone ever been told that they are overweight and had surgery put off.

I am waiting for fertility treatment (hysteroscopy, for fibroid, scar tissue and uterine reset). I have been refered to RMC and have been there since April. They waited until August and then told me to loose weight b 4 surgery. I was told at least 10 per cent of weight. I actually lost more and they still won't do it. They could not say what weight they would do it at as apparently it is up to the anaestatist. I am still dieting.

Has anyone experienced the same?

Sorry, no I've never had to have surgery, thank god!
But that's shocking that you did what was asked and they still said no!
I'd be straight on the phone to PALS!

I am not being funny, but I suppose it depends on your current weight...so, they saidm from your last appointment to loose 10% ..so that is what you do...or did they change the goal post?

It can be an issue if you need a general anaesthetic, since fatty tissue 'soaks up' anaethetics and can increase the risk of things like over doses, and probelms with breathing

It is a bit confusing.

I have lost the weight they asked and he said that I am still overweight but could not say what more I needed to loose. they will do an outpatient part of the op. No anaesthetic used but will not do the one where I need anaesthetic. I had anaesthetic in April for a d&C but he said that D&C was not selective op. but necessary,so they take the risk. I have had anaesthetic 3 times for different ops and never a problem. Weight has always been roughly the same.

whichever way I look at it I cannot force their hand. I have to abide by their flipping rules.
I just wish they had been truthful from the beginning and told me to loose the weight ages ago!!
