Palpitations?

Hi all.

So, I've had palpitations since around 6pm yesterday evening (it's now 5am), and they're quite bad. They leave me with lightheadedness, dizziness, sweating a little, shaking and feeling extremely nauseous. I haven't slept at all tonight because I haven't been able to settle/get comfortable.

Whenever they rear their ugly head (which happens to be every few minutes), i feel as though my breath is catching in my throat. I haven't wanted to go to A&E because I don't feel like I'm 'serious' enough, and I feel as though ill be wasting their time.

Does anyone know what this could be, or have any experience of it themselves? As well as feeling odd and ill, I'm also starting to get very hacked off!

Thank you in advanced :)

Oh, and I forgot to add - I'm not pregnant.

Are you experiencing any stress at the moment? Just asking as this is what happened to me after a particularly bad time and it spiralled into nightly panic attacks then horrible anxiety and depression. I would advise to see your gp, get checked out, see what they can rule out.

Hi gemdrop,

I suffer with Generalised Anxiety Disorder and Bipolar Disorder type II, and both are currently stabilised without medication. I wouldn't say I was experiencing any stress, no - at least not outwardly and that I know of. It's my birthday in 2 weeks, I've just come back from a lovely 4 day break in Paris, and I'm looking forward to starting a new job in June. I just woke up with them yesterday morning, but they didn't get really noticeable or troublesome until about 6pm yesterday evening.

I have to say, I did go to A&E today because I got severe chest pain that has lasted a few hours and started to become debilitating, as well as the palpitations and the symptoms I was getting. They couldn't find any trace of a heart attack within my bloods and ECG, although they did find a rapid heartbeat in which my resting pulse rate was around 130, and my blood pressure was low at 99/67. They put me on morphine, IV paracetamol, anti sickness and also gave me beta blockers - I'm hoping they'll do the trick and I'll be back to feeling like my old self soon!!

I have been on beta blockers as that was an issue for me, they have really helped. I hope you are feeling better. I suppose the problem with anxiety etc is it can just hit you out of the blue, its a strange beast!
