Ovarian Cyst - should I expect surgery tomorrow?

I was diagnosed with an ovarian cyst 3 weeks ago, which likely ruptured as I was in extreme pain. I've had this severe pain on and off for the last 18 months, so it most definitely isn't going away.

Since my scan, the pain has persisted. It's not severe, but it's just 'there', uncomfortable all the time. I'm seriously bloated, I look pregnant. I've been off work with the pain. I have also had poss endo symptoms for the last 2 years.

So I'm going in for another scan tomorrow, where they will decide whether to refer me for a laparoscopy to remove the cyst / investigate endo. I have decided that I definitely want the surgery, it's gone on too long.

My Mum thinks I should be prepared for them to admit me there and then, as they may decide to do the surgery straight away.

Does anyone have any experience of this? How likely am I to be admitted for surgery straight away? Or will I just be put on a waiting list??

I think it's unlikely you will have surgery tomorrow. They will do the scan and then the next step will be a pre op appointment where your bloods will be taken, height, weight and swabs for MRSA.
Your surgery appointment is usually fairly soon after this one.

I think the standard wait for surgery is usually 18 weeks but as you're in so much pain it may be quicker.

Hope this helps.

Oh thank you orange I just don't know what to expect.

I imagine they'll do the pre-op stuff tomorrow as I have a clinic appointment immediately after my scan. Plus they took bloods 3 weeks ago when I was admitted.

I'm nervous about the whole thing, I've never been in hospital before. Part of me wants it to get done tomorrow to get it over with, and another part of me wants more time to prepare!

I remember how scared I was of surgery and also wanting to be out of pain. I had three cysts removed over a period of three years. They were all removed laparoscopically. I have to say though everyone was really lovely at the hospital and very reassuring. They will look after you.

You'll get a chance to ask questions about the surgery at the pre op appointment.

Hope all goes well for you today.
