As usual NHS Direct is busy <yawn> so help needed please!

dd2 has recently had a virus and a cold ,last night she spent most of the night coughing,she is ok in herself just grumpy but her chest is now rattling ,so does she need to see a gp?
I really dont want to call if it isn't neccersary as it is so hard to see a gp round here .

DS1 spent ages with a productive cough in the night, and a rattly chest, I never thought to take him in . He's survived, anyway.

Have you tried going on the NHS direct website and going through the symptoms on the self help guide? It tells you on there what to do, whether self care at home, ring NHS direct, see doctor, etc

Steam can really help, hot bath.

If she's eating and drinking well, I wouldn't bother probably.

Has she got a temperature? Is she eating ok?

If she is breathing fast, her stomach is sucking in under her ribs or around her neck when she breathes in, or her colour is not so good, or her temperatures spikes - then take her to emergency doc, or preferably A & E.

If you are concerned in anyway, try and see the emergency doctor. Coughs and colds are common in babies, the thing to be concerned about is that they can change quickly.

No temp and eating fine .
Just looked on Nhs direct and it wasn't much help as it didn't mention the rattling .
It is probably just becoming a productive cough but it sounds horrible.

Is she coughing up slime? If so, what colour?

She hasn't coughed up anything yet ,probably why it is rattling?

Rattling is because there's phlegm in there.

Keep an eye on her, take her to the GP if you think she's getting worse.
