Over the past few years, I gradually realized that what I think of as an IBS flare up is often associated with ovulation for me. First I feel bloated, then I get this "rumbly grumbly" thing in my gut, then I start to have pain....like a gassy kind of pain. Sometimes it's just "discomfort." But sometimes, like last cycle, it leaves me literally laying on my side on the bathroom floor, in major pain feeling like I'm either going to pass out or throw up or both. Once it starts to feel better, I've learned the hard way not to get up. Getting up...being anything other than horizontal...makes it worse and makes me shakier and more likely to pass out. It can take anywhere from 3-8 hours to resolve.

Because I've had a number of pre-ovulation ultrasounds lately, I now know it's a post-ovulation thing for me. It happens within hours of ovulation.

My OB/GYN said that maybe the fluid released during ovulation somehow irritates my bowel. Sounds like an interesting guess to me.

Again, I apologize for not knowing where to post these questions, but I was wondering if anyone else had a similar experience and if anyone had any idea what might cause it. Any suggestions for where I might find more information on it? I'd like to understand it more...because then it's less scary...and also maybe if I understand it better I can figure out how to mitigate it a bit. It was B-A-D this last time!

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance!
