Fibroids - anyone got any experience

Back in february, after months of very heavy bleeding and crippling pain (to the point where i was crawling on the floor with the pain), i was diagnosed with Fibroids. I was started on the depo injection, which i was told would stop my AF, and stop the pain. Within 2 days of the first injection i started bleeding, very heavily - no pain, just the bleeding. I was given hormone tablets to stop the bleeding, and the next two injections i was still getting the bleeding, but it was easing. The last one was in Aug (next due tomorrow) and i had no bleeding until about a week ago when i started getting very light spotting. However i am very bloated, my tummy looks slightly swollen, and i keep getting what i can only describe as "period pain" like pains intermittently.
Is this normal, and is it the Fibroids that's causing the bloated feeling. I'm also getting very hot, and especially at night.
Am due to go to the Gynie in November, to discuss my options!!!

i know this isn't much help but i work with a woman who had them so i can sympathise with you. Fingers crossed it all goes well with gynie tomorrow.

My sister had endometrial ablation for hers and thought it was the bee's knees.

It's an excellent treatment for fibroids for many women who are done having children.

She has completed childbearing, though.

expat, my GP was talking about me needing to have a hysterectomy1 Which shocked me a bit.

I'd NEVER have a hysterectomy w/o getting at least one other opinion, even if I had to borrow money to pay for it.

It can't be avoided in some circumstances, but it definitely can in many.

That is a major operation w/a LOT of potential ramifications for the woman.

Which can be avoided w/ablation, which is a far easier and less complicated procedure.

The initial consultant my sis saw suggested hysterectomy, too, and was quite dismissive of my sister's concerns about crash menopause, pelvic floor issues, etc.

So she paid privately for another opinion.

and is very pleased she did.

She is 39.

I never understand why they give women with heavy bleeding the depo. THey did this to me (at first) and all I did was bleed continuously for weeks on end.

I now see a private gynae - there are lots of other options (like the ablation) out there. They need to check the health of your womb first (to see what's going on).

I really would not go with the depo. If you can tolerate the normal combined pill, I find that does more for my heavy bleeding than anything else (though I can't take it at the mo).

I had the depo and it didn't help but I have since had the mirena coil and it has stopped my bleeding although I appreciate it does not suit everyone. I would definitely get some alternative advice because it sounds like there are other options out there - good luck.
