Painful Sore Joints!

MellowMonsta · 16/10/2006 15:01

Just wondered if anyone else is as unfortunate as me and suffers with this in the cold weather and if so does anyone have any tips on how to stop it getting too sore.

My knees have swollen up 1 1/2 their size and my right one is very sore when walking.

I was advised when I was 18 not too participate in too much wild dancing and partying as I had a viral infection in both knees but I did and now they get sore most winters.

Mellow
I really think you need to ask your GP to refer you to a rheumatologist. I was also told this in my early 20s and it took 15 more years to get a diagnosis of arthritis. I'm not an expert, but this really sounds like a rheumatology issue. You might need some medicine that will easily sort this out. Feel free to CAT me if you want to talk about it more. Good luck.

My dad swears by Glucosamine (sp) tablets which he gets from Tesco. He get the extra strong ones. He's an ex builder with bad knees and hips and for him to recommend is high praise indeed.

venus this is what my mums said. I thought arthitis was an old people thing bloomin sore though. My dh has glucosimine (sp) I will steal some of his just now and see how it goes.

I was also advised when I was younger that there is no medicine for arthitis? Maybe things have changed now though. That was many a year ago

it sounds like arthritis to me .. and really the sooner you get anti-inflammatories (may be as simple as constant ibuprofen) and possibly DMARDs (disease modifiers) the better

you will need blood tests .. esr / sed rate and probably x-rays

please take it seriously

Yes, I'm with Twigtwolett. Make sure the GP refers you to a rheumatologist. Orthopaedic people aren't very good with joints, in my experience, although that is often who the GP thinks of first. Best of luck!
