low ferretin

Have had a lot of blood tests as I have been feeling crap (tired, exhausted). all came back normal with decent levels but ferretin. It was 25. Only spoke to the receptionist who said it was at the lower range of normal.

Only have a follow up appointment next year.

Suppose from googling that a ferretin level of 25 can affect one.

Can anymody recommend any iron supplements? Don't want to wait till seeing the GP to start on iron.

Also, how long does it usually take for levels to pick up again?

You can buy Ferrous Sulphate 200mg over the counter at a pharmacist which are identical to those you get on prescription.
Alternatively you may prefer one of the liquids like spatone, floradex or ferro something that are gentler on your stomach.

yes ferritin is low but is low ferritin the cause of your symptoms?

you could self medicate or wait to see your GP.

In women the most common cause of lowe ferritin is due to menstrual blood loss.

I'd try Spatone or Ferroglobin for low ferritin without anaemia. I have low ferritin - lower than 25 - but I'm not anaemic and I find that they help me without causing stomach upsets. I've also found that low ferritin can make me feel tired, despite not being anaemic.
