Gall Stones

Hiya,
Just hoping someone clever can explain to me what gall stones are.
Are they dangerous?
Is it serious ? (I mean, I understand it's painful)
If operated on is it over, or are you 'prone' ?
Where is your gall bladder?
What does a gall bladder do?
If operation needed, how long is recovery time?
If "blasted" what does that mean ?

Thanks

No - just been told my brother has them, and I was wondering how worried I ought to be. He's never 'chatty' at the best of times, I don't think he'll let me know any amount of detail about his health now.
That's eased my mind a bit. Thanks.

There are incredibly painful.
I would rather have another baby, frankly :(
If I were you I would advise him to get them out out ASAP..

I've recently just had my gallbladder removed because of gallstones. My gallbladder was full of stones, got infected and I ended up in hospital. It was so painful. I controlled the attacks with diet while I waited for them to do the surgery was about 8 months. Cut out all fatty foods.

Since having it out ive been loads better. No indesgtion no acid. No bloating. Can eat what I like Grin

Thanks both.
Reading the info though - he's not a woman, not given birth (!), and not carrying excess weight, so it seems he's especially unlikely to have been hit by this.
8 months is a long wait though! Sad
