DS fell down stairs, hurt his hip

10 tens ago DS, who is 17 months, fell down the stairs. We were told at A&E that an X-ray of his hip didn't reveal any fractures and he should be able to bear weight on his leg in a couple of days. When this didn't happen, our GP sent him back to A&E for more X-rays and these still didn't show anything wrong so an appointment was made for this Friday. After showing gradual improvement, to the point where he is able to stand and bear weight, he seems to have stopped improving the last couple of days - and still can't walk.

What worries us is that the doctors just say he should be walking, and they don't know why he isn't.

Has anyone had any similar experiences? Anything we should push for at the hospital on Friday - we have so little experience of doctors and hospitals?

oh, it's awful isn't it, dd2 did this last week or so and it scared the shit out of me.

she only had bruising though, screamed blue murder for about 10 mins but I bribed her with an ice pop and when she finished it she toddled over to the bin so I knew she was ok, didn't go to A&E

not sure what to advise really, it could be a sprain maybe? Any bruising?

I wonder if he might have popped the joint ie: dislocated it partky then it relocated itself, but this can cause tissue and muscle/tendon damage and can be as painful and debilitating as a break
If you are that way inclined, I'd seek an osteopaths opinion or ask for speedy referral to a physio...
But at the end of the day, doctors say he should be weightbearing/walking and he isn't so they need to think of something else it could be
poor little guy bet he's really cheesed off?

He's taking it in pretty good spirits, considering. He actually quite liked the first few days - sitting on the sofa and pointing to various toys and having his parents run over and get them for him. But he's getting more frustrated now as he knows he's close to walking but just can't manage it.

I just wish the doctors would say "well, it could be this, this or this, and if so this, this or this will happen", rather than "hmmn, dunno, he should be walking by now, lets see what happens next week". His bruising isn't visible anymore, and there wasn't much bruising to see before. I guess its just very hard to diagnose someone who can't talk.
