itchy sore vagina in 2.9 yr old...

It seems to have come and gone for a week or so, and every time I've been about to take her to GP the Sudacrem, or Metanium, that I've used seems to do the trick. Then it comes back.
Its not worse at night, as far as I can tell, though I've wondered about threadworms.
I can't see any eczema like dryness around the openings, though she does get mild eczema elsewhere (esp on her face, at the moment).
I haven't seen any discharge in her knickers.
She is recently potty trained, maybe about a month.
She says it itches and hurts in warm baths, particularly - otherwise just occasionally see her looking uncomfortable and rubbing at it.
I will take her to GP on Monday, but meantime - any thoughts? Tips?

Forgot to say, it looks red and sore around the vaginal opening, and inside...and a bit pink around her anus tonight for the first time (just after bath, though).

Since its the weekend, you could ask the pharmacists if he/she can recommend. Sounds thrush like even without the discharge. Poor wee soul. Hope she's better soon.

Could she be allergic to whatever you use in her bath?

X post. Thanks so much, I will do exactly that tomorrow morning. Can't hurt, and might avoid the poor love having to be examined by GP which I know she will not be happy about!

Sounding more and more thrush like. In adults natural yoghurt applied on the sore bit is meant to help but eating it is also helpful. Would she? Maybe with jam in? Or an activia yoghurt or actimel drink. The good bacteria helps. Just until you can get a good cream.

PFNM, I tend not to use anything in her bath - because of the eczema. Though I've used a bit of Infaderm bubble stuff recently, not last two nights though. Will avoid anything till it clears up though, feel silly didn't think of that

Check first but I think a little canesten is absolutely fine, I'm sure my HV recommened that for my dd1 a long time back.

Yes, she would - as long as its sweet, she'll go for it.

Shame for her. We got an anti-fungal cream I think but hopefully your pharmacist can help. Let me know how you get on.

Does she take herself to the loo? Is she wiping properly (front to back etc)?

my good friend's daughters had the same symptoms, I'd even commented to her about it when i'd bathed them one night and they'd begged me for 'cream' (totally manipulating the babysitter) which i put on for them. so i'd say that their bottoms looked similar to what you describe, the poor wee things.
Their mum had thougth they were doing a bit of attention-seeking, but she took them to the GP and it did turn out to be worms. (and don't worry, i wasn't overstepping the mark in putting the cream on, we're very close pals and i'm 'cleared' for things like that.)

Nope! Her bum is fine, and up until tonight it wasn't her anus either...just her vagina. Which makes me hope its thrush rather than worms...easier to get rid of (and I'm pregnant).
She did start nursery two weeks ago though...

i don't know much about it, tbh, i just remember that they moaned about it in the bath and the 5 year-old, bless her heart, was fiddling with herself quite a lot pretty much constantly, necessitating the 'that's really for private moments' chat. the 2 year old didn't seem as bothered but she did moan in the bath. we thought she was just copying her big sister but obviously she wasn't.

Friends dd had same problem - found that she was drinking too much fresh orange juice something to do with the acid. Also too much sugar could cause problems if your dd has a sweet tooth. Sounds like thrush - pharmacist should be able to give you something over the counter. Why do these things always happen on a Friday when the doctors is closed!

Canesten cream is fine to use on nappy rash so would be fine on this too. If doesn't clear up with that then maybe threadworms?

Thanks all....have put some canesten cream on and put her to bed. She said it stung a bit when she peed, tonight, but that was it - and her anus isn't at all pink or red anymore (maybe that was just heat from the bath).
We'll see tomorrow...if its better, great. If not, gp on Monday. And yes, why is it always Friday night?!

HappyMum, that could be it IF dd had actually used the toilet at nursery - but so far, she's just held on for three hours and waited till she got home. Apart from memorable occasion when she decided the plastic washing up bowl they were using to do pretend washing up in was a potty....

OK, she's been asleep about 40 minutes so I checked her bum with a torch. No sign of anything wriggling or threadlike, though canesten made it hard to see clearly in places. Was that the right way to check?
