Mirena coil and the 6 week check

Is the 6 week check as standard etc for most people. I had the coil put in on Monday and nothing was said about a check, just that I have an appointment with my consultant in four months.

Also, since having it fitted I have had terrible diahorrea since, has anyone suffered this?

Maybe I should look into that then as I have nothing. It was just implied to seek help if there were any problems - I guess if it's not in properly and I become pregnant they will count that as a problem!!

Hi,
I did have check @ 6wk.with my coil(copper one),but at my last smear, nurse told me re. my coil they would no longer be calling me for coil checks & would only need to see me in 5 yrs. to have new one unless I had any probs. before then with existing coil.
She said reason for this was to spare women invasive V.E's unnecessarily as in their wisdom(!) they have decided if you were having probs. with your coil you would know about it & would get in touch. She then roughly explained that once its settled in place ,its less likely to cause you probs. & also where I would experience pain if coil had moved/was in wrong place/triggered infection etc.
Personally,I don't think its to stop invasive Examinations at all,I think its a cost cutting excercise, but since I'm not a particular fan of v.e's & I have not had any(serious) probs.with my coil(had it for 3 years ) I didn't bother debating the issue with her.
Anyway after all that, what I'm trying to say is maybe thats why you weren't offered 6 wk. check,as they maybe used to offer them but have stopped like my G.P's practice has!

What's the hormone in Mirena - could that be causing the diahorrea?

the diarrhoea is prob as a result of all the cramping

(tmi, but when I get crampy periods, I always get diarrhoea aswell - I think the uterus cramps can affect your bowel - don't ask me how!)
