Sigh yet again dds chest is bad. After 2 months off had sort of hoped we were over all this. She had a cold start on monday, yesterday still only a cold but woke up this morning and she was chesty. Gave her the inhaler a couple of times through the day but by 4pm it wasnt helping so took her to walk in hoping to be told was a chest infection. Nope asthma[thats not asthma according to them!!![hmmmm]]so they phoned a ambulance and wasnt allowed to even drive dd to hospital as they said she might stop breathing..way to scare a pg woman!!! Anyways am semi glad ambulance came as the crew were lovely and gave her the nebuliser in the ambulance which means that by time we got to A+E her breathing was ten times better so instead of a stay have been given a course of steroids and to watch her if no better by friday we are to go back. Just had to destress hence typing it out!!

Hope she is better soon.

Nutty funny thing was tonights A+E dr was asking why she had never been given a preventer inhaler so I said about being told she was too young to be diagnosed etc. So he said well if it is a consistent thing for over 6mths then they should be considering it and will write it up in her notes. So fingers crossed someone listens..also ambulance lady said that when she turns one I should be able to get her one easier.

Oh yes, definatly try and get one, it made so much difference to Dd2 and I so wish we'd had one earlier.

Dd is nearly 7 and touch wood hasn't needed either inhaler for a while now. Hopefully your Dd will be the same.

am glad your dd is doing better...I was like dd till I was 5 then it passed off. Although unfortunately asthma came back when I was around 13

I wonder if you could get a nebuliser machine for at home ??

We nearly did as thats all we seemed to do, go to hospital, dd have nebuliser and then go home.

Funnily enough I said that to DH when he came to pick us up. Will see how she is the next couple of months and bide our time till she turns one. Am also worried as then of course DB is here in jan so will be a lot of juggling if she has to stay in.

Emkana she usually starts with a cold but then her breathing becomes very fast, sides tug in at ribs and her neck tugs. She also coughs constantly and gasps/grunts. Gave her the inhaler prescribed which didnt relief her which is when I know it is getting bad.

If you are worried about your ds then get him seen. I know you said due to his condition his sides tug in when breathing but if you have any doubt it needs to be checked. To be honest what they said about her stopping breathing was what frightened me most as am usually quite laid back about it due to having asthma myself.

Thanks nemo.
Ds is often wheezing and also pulling in, but very happy and not at all distressed, so they have told me he's a "happy wheezer" and not to get too stressed...
Still difficult though.

Emkana..DD is a happy wheezer, even when she is really bad she still grins away and trys to play. If you are worried push for them to keep a better eye on him. Are his stats etc normal on check ups?

Last time his sats were checked they were fine, but that was a month ago.

Oh dear, starting to feel all anxious again now...
the thing is, the consultant in hospital said check for his colour and how he is feeding and if he is happy... if all that is good, then things are good.

Nemo1977 · 20/09/2006 23:11

dont feel anxious am sure you are just super vigilant with everything else going on for you. IF he is generally ok then am sure he is fine but just keep an eye on it and as I say if anything bothers you then make sure you shout about it.
