OK chaps? I won't post the links again this time if you don't mind.

I will start the thread by saying that Paps is not ethereal and wispy but very groomed and chic. Bad luck to those who missed her

I also wanted to ask for advice about cravings I have been having - wanting to eat loads of cheese and chocolate which was not really top of my intended list. I am not sure what to do - I like to try and eat whatever I feel like eating, usually, but I am craving lots and lots of cheese and chocolate, more than I think can be good for me. I am not sure if it is because I am tired - seem to need much more sleep when I have been to the gym but I am not actually getting more sleep

anyone for an early night thread? If we get to sleep by 10 we could be the 10 / 10 / 10 club

I'm usually in bed by 10 anyway [sad, no life, knackered old bag emoticon]!

I have loads more energy during the day but I do pass out on the sofa by 10pm, now - it seems that working 5 days a week is a big shock to my system.

Not sure what to suggest about the cravings. How about strawberries dipped in chocolate
I get mega carbo cravings if I don't eat enough during the day and huge choc cravings the day my period is about to start. I never even look at chocolate usually, but when I find myself eyeing up jaffa cakes in the local shop, I know to stock up on paracetoml as well IYKWIM.

I am fine all day, don't get too hungry during the day, energy levels ok, but then go to the gym in the evening or afternoon and then the rest of the day just want to completely stuff my face. I am eating plenty anyway I would say, but how do I stop myself from wanting to eat everything in the house?

I would let yourself have some of what your body wants, but make sure you're also getting some more fibre in you, iyswim.

Your body is wanting to make muscle, and of course you're burning up lots of extra calories (and if memory serves me well, you're not exactly overflowing with spare fat deposits, right?). So do increase your fat consumption a bit, but you could stick to healthy fat, like avocadoes? Bananas aren't fatty, but they are hi-cal, so probably also a good idea.

Today I have had muesli, apples, tomatoes (in sandwich), and a giant bowl of v. healthy salad. Oh, and sweetcorn. So, doing ok. My struggle atm is eating during the day. I can't be bothered cooking, if it's just me eating, so then I end up eating crap. Well, except we've run out of crap, whoops.

What kind of cheese are you craving? What kind of choc?

Report
Greensleeves · 18/09/2006 19:55

Aw, Franny, have some cheese.

Report
FrannyandZooey · 18/09/2006 21:07

Aw, just any kind

I don't usually have much in the house so have just been eating whatever's around, plus sending out for reinforcements. I just ate 3 pain au chocolat but still feel like eating

I am getting bored of eating veg etc when I am hungry, it takes ages and it doesn't fill me up

heeeeeeeelp

don't worry I will be back to normal soon

Hmm, I think you should be aiming for high-calorie food, tbh. Grilled cheese sandwiches? Lots of avocado? Not sure what works for you, but high-cal isn't really a problem.

Hmmm, now I'm starving. I think we have some fancy pate defrosted in the fridge ...

Ooh, tomorrow the kids (and I? Not sure) are having tea at a friend's house. And I have a similar arrangement for Thursday, only tomorrow's is at a Belgian friend, while Thursday is a total food freak German vegan type person. Should be interesting, anyway.

FrannyandZooey · 18/09/2006 21:26

Ooh pls report back on both meals. I hate it when you don't know if you are going to get fed, don't you? I always get it wrong as well, so when I have quickly scarfed down a big doorstep of bread, they bring out a massive buffet, but when I have eaten sparingly all day in anticipation of a feast, I am sitting there with my head swimming going "erm...do you think I could possibly trouble you for a glass of water? and a dry biscuit?"

The Belgian woman makes her own pastry, in a casual sort of way. I have pastry phobia (I lie: I can do filo, very happily. I can use puff, very happily, although I haven't tried making my own. Shortcrust gives me the wiggins, though), so there are skills there I could pick up. She has a thoroughly European attitude to food, in that her kids appear to eat a range of crap and real food, quite happily.

The German woman is v dour, and there's a distinct lack of protein in her house. Actually, I keep thinking about starting a thread: "Can you have a friendship with someone who appears to disapprove of you constantly?". But she's already starred in a thread, before ....

Report
FrannyandZooey · 18/09/2006 21:57

Oh LOLOL at "shortcrust gives me the wiggins"

plus lots of other bits

she may just have that unfortunate knack of giving off the air of disapproval without actually giving a toss. I do it, sometimes

OP posts:

NotQuiteCockney · 18/09/2006 22:08

No, she definately disapproves. Trust me. She's quite German (i.e. not subtle) with it.

Report
FrannyandZooey · 18/09/2006 22:10

Still LOL at 'wiggins' and "she's quite dour and there is a distinct lack of protein in her house"

LOL
oh dear all these calories have gone to my head I think

which thread did she feature in, anyway? Having started one thread about a subject never stops me from milking it for as many future threads as possible

She's the "knit hat" woman. It was a thread about "is she strange, or just German?" The consensus was, she's just German.

Report
NotQuiteCockney · 18/09/2006 22:24

I feel slightly guilty gossiping about her publically, although I know she is unlikely to be on here.

Shortcrust pastry is really annoying. You can't work it much, or it "goes wrong". That is not a valuable quality in an ingredient.

hi dahlings!

Been munching and exercising more than adequately, but RL and full-time work limits scope to post I'm afraid.

But I couldn't help notice how you all have missed me so much....> and your feeble attempts to lose me in all of these confusing threads have come to nought! Just call me Theseus.....

Morning

Grapefruit and porridge for breakfast, so get my points as well as fill my belly.

For afternoon tea yesterday dd and I had gucomole with tortilla chips - buzzed a tomato and garlic through it. Very filling vege fix.

Franny do you like nuts? Perhaps scoffing some nuts might help your hollow belly.

I am just loving being the groomed and chic SAHM on here! Will have to buy some wings to finish the ensemble!

Pann who?

FrannyandZooey · 19/09/2006 08:37

Hmm Pann I was only gone a few hours before there was a discussion on whether to replace me, as I recall...

Overrun, that is fine, send them to frannyandzooey at india dot com and what I will do is resize them and send them back to you, that way you can post them on here yourself, and take them on and off as you want to. If that doesn't work I will post them for you.

Clary, welcome again! Can you tell us anything about yourself so we can make bad jokes about your ethnicity or whatever?

Paps, my how groomed you are looking this morning...Nuts are not my favourite really, despite there being 2 k of them in the larder (dp eats them like there is no tomorrow)

NQC, I despise pastry in general. I mean I don't even like eating it. I do remember your thread but annoyingly, not the details. When you feel like a gossip, let me know

Ah, I quite like pastry, and periodically want a nice chicken pot pie, although all my attempts, so far, have gone wrong. Oh, and I miss pumpkin pie something fierce, but make pumpkin cake, or pumpkin cheese cake (yum!) instead.

Muesli so far this morning. Am plotting to do something with pears, maybe some sort of cake? They are piling up in the kitchen, and I can't stand them once they're ripe. DS1 no longer takes a lunch to school, so I can't unload them that way ...

Report
Clary · 19/09/2006 10:31

Hello all.
So far today: museli for brekkie (can I count that then? Not very fruity really).
Snacks: handful of cherry toms, 2x nectarines, 2 x apples.

Exercise could be tricky today as DH is out at football. Anyone got any ideas? Running up and down the stairs 20 times maybe?

Franny, erm whatcha want to know? I shop in Boden sale, despise double pushchairs, watch ER and Friends and Supernanny...ethnicity is white but I am half welsh so you can rib me on that if you like.

I made a pear pie cake in the weekend.

Pastry base. Slice up your pears, then add a custard of 2 -3 eggs, milk, vanilla and abit of suger/honey/molasses.

Cook for about 25 minutes at 180

Ate alot of carrot and cucumber at playgroup.

NQC you better make some nice vegan biscuits to take with you to impress your "friend".

Franny at the end of not even one single day, you are being having "wiggins" about your vegetable consumption AND admitting to chocolate cravings

All I can say is cold turkey to your addictions!! You have fruit for breakfast?? Breakfast like a king, lunch like a queen and supper like a pauper or increase your grazing during the day. Banana sandwichs??

I fully advocate going to bed early, I admit that I get quite excited about going to bed early, if I go late it does not seem quite so exciting. Strange but true!!

I am not doing very well today I have had a bowl of muesli (fruity) with orange juice on it, and an apple - does that count as three?

I am in the same boat as Franny, I want a cheese sarnie with loads of butter, and a big hunk of chocolate. And some marzipan. In fact I want a bowl of melted chocolate and some chunks of marzipan to dip in it. Oooh, and a pepperoni pizza with anchovies on it. And a jar of kalamata olives.

Why have I got all these damn cravings? If I did the whole "listen to what your body is telling you" thing I would be the size of a small car by Christmas
